Latest Anime DVD Edits Discovered

Virus now seems to be the latest entry in the long history of problematic and controversial DVD releases from Manga Entertainment. According to Anime on DVD, at least the first Virus Buster Serge DVD appears to be either partially dubtitled or simply have a subtitle translation with noticeable inaccuracies. Furthermore, the opening and ending animation have been heavily altered for the American release. These changes probably will not bother many viewers, but other viewers seeking an “authentic” English language presentation of the show will probably be disappointed.

The Anime No Editing Zone has reported that Pioneer has altered the original opening credits found on Vandread Second Stage DVD 2. Episodes 7-13 include a distinct opening animation sequence. Instead of translating the Japanese language credits during one section of this new opening, Pioneer apparently edited out the entire brief sequence and replaced it with a similar sequence from the episodes 1-6 opening animation. Again, the change is minor and will probably go un-noticed by most viewers, but die-hard fans may be upset to know that what they get on the American Vandread Second Stage DVD is not what the original animators intended.
