The .hack//Quantum OVA will premiere with screenings during Bandai Visual’s touring Anime Fes. “VS” publicity event that will hit Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya beginning November 27.

I wasn’t bothered when they reused the avatars of Kite and Black Rose in the .hack://Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, but using them for a third time? Well, the new Kite looks like a female avatar this time, so that’s different. Of course if this anime is going to be accurate to the real-life MMORPG, then this Kite will be a boy playing as a female avatar. . . No, never mind. That would be stealing from .hack://Sign.
I’m not deep into .Hack lore, but it’s not appreciated to have these recurring avatars from the previous series? Can you steal from yourself, BTW? 🙂
I dunno, MMO settings are all about seeing tons of nearly identical-looking people. I always took the fact that the appearances were similar despite highly different characters as a setting element that reinforced the contrast to reality.
Using them in Twilight Bracelet made sense for plot reasons and was heavily lampshaded by people recognizing the characters (who themselves were won in a contest), so that was fine by me.
