Guillermo del Toro to Direct Monster Pilot

Monster-Naoki-Urasawa

Deadline reports that Doctor Who screenwriter Steven Thompson and Hellboy & Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro are co-writing a pilot episode adaptation of Naoki Urasawa’s suspense manga Monster. Angry Films is producing the pilot for proposal to HBO as a possible continuing series.

New Line Pictures acquired the domestic film rights to Urasawa’s Monster manga in 2005 but ultimately did not exploit the rights. del Toro then personally asked Naoki Urasawa for the option to produce a tentative live-action TV series adaptation. Madhouse produced a 74-episode anime TV series adaptation of the manga in 2004.
