FUNimation Announces New Acquisitions

FUNimation has announced its acquisition of broadcast, home entertainment, mobile, and streaming rights to the Shangri-la & Sankarea anime TV series, supplemental home video rights to the Mirai Nikki TV series, and streaming rights to the Jormungand, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead, and Lupin III: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna anime TV series.

Gonzo’s 2009 24-episode sci-fi action anime TV series Shangri-La adapts Eiichi Ikegami’s novel that depicts Japan in the future when the country has been largely overrun by forrest and global carbon emission standards force strict living conditions upon Japanese citizens. Pretty widely agreed upon by the international otaku community that the show was pretty bad.

The Sankarea anime TV series based on Mitsuru Hattori’s romantic horror comedy manga premiered on Japanese TV on the 5th. Wish I was more excited by this announcement, but the first episode of the show just didn’t seem like anything worth getting excited over.

The brilliant Lupin III: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna TV series premiered on Japanese TV on the 4th. Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead, this month’s sequel to the 2011 Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? TV series premiered on Japanese TV on the 4th. The Jormungand action anime based on Keitaro Takahashi’s manga, will premiere on Japanese TV on the 10th. FUNimation has been streaming the Mirai Nikki TV series since its October 2011 Japanese premiere.
