I believe said trick lies in the rune system and character customization. In a perfect world, all builds are created equal and no outsize returns are possible by selecting one (cookie-cutter) build over the other.

Blizz is already on the right track. If you go through the current list of skills and made an analysis of the math behind them, you'll notice that the statistical properties have been fine-tuned (regardless of mix-and-match possibilities) by some pretty smart dudes. You always seem to lose one thing by selecting one type of rune/skill over the other.

-----

Anyway, all it is that all this says is that Blizz has put in a lot of effort behind the math/economics that will drive DIII. My only concern is that they created a "safe" product. That would so incredibly undermine the essence of creating artificial risk that I doubt DIII will survive for long. Diablo is not Diablo without some outliers to spice things up.

Just read that you can only have 6 skills active at one time, I thought at first this was just a beta thing but they actually have this in the final game? seriously thats retarded, I have ten number keys and a mouse with programmable buttons why limit me to 6 !@%&ing skills and a 30 second cooldown to switch them? Its not like I play with a 360 controller or anything.

Well, in Diablo 2 you could only have two skills (one for both mouse clicks) so I don't see that as a step back

You just held your mouse over them and clicked what hotkey you wanted to assign.

It was also a huge pain in the *** and didn't really fit in with the gameplay. I rarely ever saw anybody using more than two attacks, more so just spamming the highest level skill.

I had E, F, R, T, G, and F1 through F4 all assigned to various skills, and I got pretty boss with using them.

I mainly played a hammerdin in PvP so all I needed was charge + hammers + teleport

Desynching hammerdins ftw..

My meteor/orb sorc was a little more complicated with the sheild buffs and having to switch inbetween orb/meteor/and some lightning skills.

But seriously, the hammerdin was so easy to play.

After reading most of that forum post Jon linked, I'm a lot more excited about D3 now than ever before, especially how the customization seems even more robust this time around, so we won't have a select few cookie cutter builds that everybody will have, and it'll be more honed to what people find fun to play (at least that's my hope).

Wrath video released. It's an anime-style short by Peter Chung.

It's cool in its own right, but imo does the "Diablo style" disservice. Where's my Dark Gothic gone to? Did it ever exist to begin with?

So we go from dark fantasy, to cartoony wow, and now Anime? I don't even think blizzard knows what consistency is anymore. And wow, they even got diablo's voice wrong DID ANYONE working on this game even !@%^ing play diablo 1 or 2? Seriously the only things they've gotten right so far is Cain's voice and its really starting to get to me because these are not hard things to get right.

Im hopeing they at least keep the cutscenes In the game CG, the worst thing they could do is what allot of companies are doing: Have flash cartoons for cutscenes that are completely out of style for absolutely no odd reason. (im looking at you mirrors edge.)

I think its a given that the game is going to be completley different from the first two.. I doubt theres many employees left from the original D1/2, a lot of those employees felt betrayed and moved on when they shuttered Blizzard North.. But, not only that, this game is comeing out 10+ years after its prodeccesors.. With those reasons alone its only normal to think that the games going to have a different feel, vibe, and especially voice actors

Weather these changes are for the good or not has yet to be seen But I have a feeling D3 will do quite well.

I got a mini-scare in my email inbox earlier. I was looking on my phone and saw the subject line "amazon has shipped Diablo III Limited..." or something in the subject. Now this is shocking because, A.) I didn't order the game from amazon because it was sold out (I ordered it from Target), and B.) It seems really early to ship something.

I then thought maybe I had ordered it on amazon a long time ago and forgot about it. I then opened the email and it said "Diablo III Limited Edition has shipped and will arrive Saturday May 12th."

However, after going to the actual website, I figured out it was the strategy guide that I ordered through amazon, not the game. I got the Limited Edition guide for $20 or so (instead of $40). Anyway, my guide is coming in on Saturday, and hopefully the Collector's Edition of the game will come in on Tuesday, if Target comes through.

Augh, I've been so busy the past two years that I haven't even been contributing to AN... =/ Fortunately I've arranged a short vacation. I purchased D3 today (digital) and have no clue as to which character I'm going to be playing as. Probably the barbarian (really, if there's a "random" button, I'm clicking it).

Looking forward to playing with fellow ANers!

Indeed. DIII's character options feel as though they're lacking creativity and originality. I've personally always thought an Archangel type character, somewhat like Tyreal, would have been a great idea.

EDIT: Might I suggest editing the poll so that the results are public?

Howdy Bisu!

The poll can't be edited to make it public after it's been created, I thought about that after the fact but it's too late.

Yoooo, it's Atlas! Back from the dead, eh? I think everyone's organizing some "sick days" for DIII 'round the world, lol.

-----

FYI for those purchasing the physical copy of the game: I think you can install and play the (free) "starter edition" offered by Blizz. What this means is that you won't have to wait for your copy to ship for you to get going. The game will be limited, but once you get your copy, you can register your CD-Key and keep going as the full game will be unlocked. Good stuff for those who don't want to wait.

I got the digital version myself; I don't have much use for physical anymore, and much prefer digital-only versions these days. So much cleaner and saves space overall.

I think you can sort of... Frankenstein it. Move all current posts into a new thread which would have that poll option enabled. It would erase current votes, but we can always re-vote.

It could be done by popular demand...
