Stylistically it's like Batman, but story wise it's closer to something like Dark City.

My thoughts exactly. There's a lot of inspirations in the show. Batman(style), Dark City(story), Giant Robo(theme), Queen's Flash Gordon theme(OP), etc.
Love Big O.

It is all that and has one of the best scores I have heard in a series.

For example.

It is one of about 10ish soundtracks I purchased.

Same composer as Hunter x Hunter. Does fantastic work on a lot of shows.

Wow, he should do more stuff in that style.

Good work on HxH and a few other things though, although I don't think he followed up Kou Ootani that well with Cyber Formula and the later OVA's. Hard to top Kou when it comes to jazzy stuff.

Which by the way that could maybe be a very random far fetched recommendation for this thread, Cyber Formula. It's like mecha on wheels pretty much.

Damned strait, better pick it up before they go belly up state side. The soundtrack runs the gamit from that march, to the best substitute monster zero melody I have heard, to excellent choral pieces. The characters are appealing and the story isn't to shabby either.

He did on Hunter X Hunter. This piece playing when Ubogin trashed 200 Mafioso was beyond great.

The music has seriously boosted my interest in Big O, nice. Second song there reminds me a bit of Kaoru Wada, who kicks *** in my book. An apprentice of one of the big Godzilla composers, haha:

As for HxH, da best.

I very much felt the Akira Ifukube(Godzilla) influence in Big O's music during the fighting scenes. One of the best music in anime, there's just so much range & depth. I love Toshihiko Sahashi's music.

Flash Gorden theme vs Big O opening

Love Big O.
The red-clad figure lurking around in the final Ep. of season one is a tribute to the bizarre Nicholas Roeg movie Don't Look Now.

Votoms is great. Check out some of the OVA's afterwards. I liked Fafner, it's not a happy anime. Ideon is hardcore stuff, not for anyone. I liked Dunbine. I liked Gainer as well. I like Tomino's depressive material more than the happy stuff, but this one was decent. Yeah, it did feel rushed. Brain Powerd was a little difficult to watch and follow. The Sakura Wars series has mechs.

I might as well ask: How's Heavy Metal L-Gaim? And Wings of Rean/Garvey's Wing, assuming they're Mecha?

I stopped at episode 15 of L-Gaim, simply because at the time all I could watch were the bootleg rips and the quality was horrible. The subtitles But since then Shin-Getter & now mSubs have released most of it fansubbed so I'll continue it at some point. Honestly I don't really like Shin-Getter's video quality & the fact they used hardsubs. mSubs took over with better quality & soft subs for episode 33 and up so I look forward to that. Not sure if I'll wait and see if mSubs will re-release episodes 1-32 with soft subs or not.

The show is fun, just don't expect it to be heavy & dark like Zeta. Its more like Tomino's Xabungle, King Gainer & ZZ Gundam.

I only watched the first episode of Wings of Rean. Didn't care for it.

Well I'll add L-Gaim to the list at least. Thanks. That brought it up to 25. Now my OCD is satisfied.

Nevermind, I had forgotten Panzer World Galient.
