Most idealistic characters in anime?

Who are the greatest idealists in anime?

I nominate Shiro Emiya from Fate Stay Night. He is always an idealist more than a realist. He embraces his heroic ideals so much, that he has become a naive fool.

Vash the Stampede. He even managed to

Shiro was a self-destructive idiot.

Pretty much everyone in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, right? I mean, their motto is "Go beyond the impossible and kick reason to the curb" or something like that. The Spirals are the one who keep trying to defeat them with 'reason', and even Lordgenome says that normal probabilities mean nothing when it comes to Dai-Gurren-Dan.

Their idealism is their power, in a literal sense.

It's difficult to separate idealism from pigheadedness.

So what exactly makes Kamina idealistic rather than pigheaded?

Ooo. Yeah, on levels that are truly beyond anything one might expect from the beginning of the series.

Here's one: Shuzo "Shu" Matsutani (NTHT). He walks the walk, even through the pits of Hell. On bad days. In inclement weather. Without an umbrella. Or shoes.

Have you ever played the game or just watched the anime?
In the game you'll find out that not only is he a fool but he is a sexist and a suicidal masochist. Not my ideal character type.

Yes it is one thing to want to be "The Man" and do all the fighting while the woman stays in the kitchen where she belongs(Shiro's words) and make sammichs. It's something entirely different when you still insist on that after you know full well you are trying to fight an oppoent who greatly out classes you in every regard and that women you have making sammiches happens to be the most powerful warrior class there is.

Shiro is sexist and a self-destructive masochist in the anime too. He regularly says that she shouldn't be fighting and tries to do it himself even though she is a powerful, legendary hero and he's a putz.

I am skeptical of your basic premise here.

I think he meant shiro's ideals regarding helping others, saving others, etc. Because he does this at his own expense, he comes off as sexist and masochistic. Either way hes blind to the reality that he can't save everyone and they have to fight too.

He definitely qualifies for this thread i think. Heck, a person can be idealistic and be evil and horrible. Tyrants often fall in that catagory.
