Section23 Films Adds Papillon Rose, La Corda D'Oro

Quote:
The North American anime distributor Section23 Films has announced Friday that Sentai Filmworks has licensed the shojo anime La Corda D'Oro ~primo passo~ and the romantic comedy Brighter than the Dawning Blue for release in June. A new licensing company, Maiden Japan, which is using Section23 Films as a distributor, has licensed the erotic comedy Papillon Rose. Also slated for June is the Clannad complete collection including the recently announced dub track, to be released on June 15, and second collection of Gintama, to be released on June 29.

Papillon Rose is a six-episode parody TV series that originally aired in 2006. Papillon Rose was originally released as a fan-made original net anime preview episode in early 2001. A 25-episode original net anime series was announced, but never materialized, however the comedy, which parodies Sailor Moon and other bishoujo anime, was eventually released as a one-episode original animated video in 2004. Maiden Japan and Section23 Films will release a seven-episode complete collection on June 8.

La Corda D'Oro ~primo passo~ was adapted from the first La Corda D'Oro game in 2006. The story takes place in an academy where a girl named Kahoko receives a magical violin to compete in the school's elite music program. Two other franchises in KOEI's Neo Romance line romance simulation games for female players, Angelique and Haruka -Beyond the Stream of Time-, have also been adapted into television anime series. A sequel, La Corda D'Oro ~secondo passo~, aired in Spring 2009. Crunchyroll has been streaming the 26-episode series since March 2009. Viz Media will publish the 12th volume of Yuki Kure's manga version of La Corda D'Oro in North America in June. Section23 Films will release the first collection on June 22.

Brighter than the Dawning Blue is a 12-episode anime adapted from a Studio August visual novel game. The story is about a princess from the Sphere Kingdom who comes to live in in the house of a family on Earth during a time where tensions between the Sphere Kingdom and Earth run high. A manga adaptation by artist HoeHoe No-miso, under the title Yoake Mae yori Ruri-iro na, started serialization in Dengeki Daioh in 2005. Section23 will release the complete collection on June 1.

It's interesting to see Switchblade get into the anime side of things through Maiden Japan. It's also an interesting title to start out with, and fits with their "pink cinema" catalog of live action films. It actually sounds pretty funny, so I will probably pick it up.

I think AN's news post on this is a little incorrect, as Switchblade seems to actually be a totally separate company from Sentai, Anime Network, and the rest, though there is no question the others are all tightly connected. They still have close ties, as it appears John Ledford helped with the start up of the company, but all the executive staff on the DVDs are different. The only thing they share with Sentai and Happy Carrot releases are the production cast from Seraphim. They have also been several posts online by industry insiders basically saying that Switchblade is "someone elses baby."

Other than the Clannad dub, this is the first Sentai solicitation that doesn't have me immediately jumping for joy, but I will probably still pick up a few of these.

The only one I'm not sure of is Brighter than the Dawning Blue (aka Crescent Love). The rest I'll probably be picking up at some point with priority on La Corda D'oro and Gintama.

La Corda...ill only get it if they edit out half of this chicks thousand appearances in the anime:

Worst case of reused footage i ever seen in an anime I swear they could be having a concert in a volcano on mercury and they would cut to this audience.

I will definitely pick up Brighter than the Dawning Blue. La Corda D'oro and Papillon Rose I might pick up eventually.

I’ve never heard of Brighter than the Dawning Blue before today…so, it’s something I will have to research to see if I want to see it.

I don’t know…however I’m glad that they are because I don’t watch anime online; so, having Sentai license stuff is the only way I would be able to watch certain series! (I love owning the actual DVD’s!)

(I really hope that Sentai licenses more yuri like Aoi Hana (Sweet Blue Flowers) and Sasameki Koto since Blue Drop did well…)

I am surprised to see Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na -Crescent Love- licensed. The show in it's TV airing was notorious for some really bad animation in a couple of episodes . . .

I have seen Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Ira Na -Crescent Love- a couple of years ago and thought it was good. It is an another adaptation of an adult PC game but it wasn't as bad as some of the others.

As for Kin-iro no Corda ~primo passo~, I have wanted to see this one for a while and I am glad it is finally licensed.

I've just seen the OVA, but isn't Papillon Rose just this side of hentai?

I wanted La Corda D'Oro to get a dub, but I guess that really was quite a pipe dream. =(

Sad to see both of the Crunchy Roll titles I really enjoyed (Eyeshield 21 and La Corda D'Oro) not get dubs. Neither title is perfect in my eyes, but they are better than some of the titles that have got dubs, that's one thing for sure. (and yes I know that Eyeshield 21 did get a dub and it failed.)
