Who's seen Simoun?

I never looked into this series until now, I'm turned off by the "Yuri looking" feel that the characters give. I read the plot description, and it kind of make sense, seeing how everyone is born female. I then read a couple reviews and a lot of them stated to get over that "yuri looking" feel and you'll find a great underrated series.

How'd everyone like it?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Yuri looking," but whatever...

Simoun is a truly odd and engaging series. It takes the standard "fighter squadron" type anime and turns it on its head. this is mainly because Simoun is not an action series. Instead it is an intense character study. The show takes its time developing its rather large cast. The characters are so complete that I found myself indeed caring about what happened to them.

I can't go into details (spoilers and all) but no character is left without significant development. Characters grow and change as they meet new people and new challenges. This is no shallow melodrama, but true character growth through shared hardship and emotional growth.

I could go on about how visualy beautiful the show is, or the stellar voice cast, or the ecclectic, haunting soundtrack, or even the (multiple) romances. But, I just wanted to stress the characters for now.

In case wasn't clear, I LOVE Simoun. You owe it to yourself to see this title.

I;m not sure what 'yuri looking feel' is supposed to mean but it is a yuri show.

I thought the sister's storyline got rather melodramatic in a particular part. I think you know the episode I mean.

The ending felt very rushed to me. Beyond that is was a good and very interesting story. Here's the OP to give you an idea of what the music for this show is like. I love this OP

Simoun is a wonderful anime series and I do highly recommend it. It’s not action it is a Romance Drama with a Sci-Fi Fantasy War…Simoun has a huge cast of well-developed characters and personalities. Yes, Simoun is a Yuri/Shoujo-ai show (and it does have gender switching…I can’t really say much more without giving away spoilers.) I don’t understand totally what you mean by “Yuri Looking”…if that means you don’t like Yuri anime in general you may not enjoy this series…however if you have an open mind you will find that this series is very intriguing. Simoun has beautiful animation and character designs and the music is absolutely wonderful!

What Sora N said. If you don't like yuri anime in general, then don't watch it. If you don't mind about it, then try watching few epiosdes.

I found Simoun to have been a delightful show I enjoyed from start to finish. Even though it is a yuri show, it was well done with a fascinating premise, had a goodly amount of sci-fi action, drama and fantasy elements that melded together perfectly. If you can be openminded enough, try a few episodes and see for yourself.

It definitely has some lesbian romances in it, among other types...let's just say it kinda has one of those gender bending things going on.

I didn't enjoy this one, however. I do like yuri so that wasn't an issue. Scifi shows have never been big with me and this one was no different. Many fans have stated they love the deep character growth but for some reason, I found myself bored and unable to care. I'm surprised at this considering how much praise it got. I ended up giving my set away to my boyfriend, who like most here really loved it.

I have.

I quite on it after about 10 episodes because I started a marathon of the entire Six Feet Under Series and right after that, Deadwood.

I may continue it later but for the most part it didn't really introduce any themes that forced me too keep watching it.

I enjoyed it, and would rate it best series of '06.

I started watching it for the cute girls getting friendly together (the gimmick of the show which is first-episode exposition, being that everyone in that world is born female, but makes the defining choice at adulthood, being there to provide that hook); but even after the first couple of episodes it was clear that it was going to be more than that -- really it's a multiple choice coming-of-age story.

Longer review.

I did enjoy this show quite a lot and it is definitely not your typical Yuri series. It is one of the best Yuri series out there but of course nothing beats Maria-sama ga Miteru. Anyway, watch the first few episodes and then decide whether you want to continue watching it or not.

It was just a visual cue for dramatic effect. Pretty effective, huh?

Terribly effective if your purpose is confusing me. Otherwise, not so much.
