See, this is a perfect example as to why I am opposed to 'filler' material right off the bat. There's 0 suspense. Let's assume for a minute that you're genuinely concerned about why Byakuya is betraying, and that your weeping over the fact he 'killed' Sode no Shirayuki. None of it matters, because filler cannot have any impact on the canon storyline. So you already know that Sode is fine, you already know that Byakuya is going to have his hurt feelings resolved, and you already know that everything will be back to normal.
None of the characters are in any kind of danger what-so-ever, they wont develop any new abilities, and any kind of new 'bond' they form during the filler will never amount to anything, because it can't do anything new that would affect the characters in the current arc. All of that aside, as far as filler goes it was a pretty good episode. |

Well up till last week the filler was just shinigami agains their zanpakatou, which made for the same crap as the lame current arc in the manga, only worse.
With this week I'm inclined to say that this filler is a lot less predictable and even better than the canon, finally deviating from this arc and the manga's formula. But yes, the fact that the reset button must be hit in the end makes it not as good. Still better than the manga. |

Even knowing nothing will really be revealed about his zanpakuto, I am very interested in the the announced title of 244,

I don't know what you guys are talking about... this was a great episode. It opened with Kyoraku
and Ukitake... more please!! ![]() The Shinigami cup was pretty funny too. Although I am curious as to where exactly Yama-jii is. If all the shinigami have to fight their zanpakuto will we see lots of battles or will this end with emo-pakuto dying and everything reverting back to the way it was?

Little late for this one, but just finished it. Was pretty impressed with how they're handling Byakuya's betrayal, as I thought it would be much more...stupid.
I was also pretty impressed with the fight choreography. Animation was nothing special, but both of the main fights were exceedingly cool. Well, the Byakuya vs. Renji part wasn't all that special, but it was nice seeing Renji pull some "new" moves out, even if they didn't work at all against his captain. |

Yeah I get the point about filler. I guess we're not kids anymore and no longer just watch the show on TV. We know whats possible in the story and whats not. Fact is Byakuya can't betray SS and can't kill Rukia's sword. Well even if it was not filler nobody could possibly die anyway ![]() Having said that the animation was great, the story is involving. I know Byakuya isn't going against SS but I'm not sure what he hopes to achieve. He really is egging things on a bit. I mean he must have been counting on Renji to save Rukia. Pretty big risk there pal. |
