FMA brotherhood episode 17

Just saw this episode. I liked it, but I have to say that the manga version so far is still a little better.

What are your thoughts?

I agree. It also made Ed and Al look quite over-emotional since they left the hotel as soon as they found out Ross had been confirmed as the murderer to go and find out what happened. Logically speaking, you would expect Ed and Al to wait until the next day or phone someone at that moment to find out what's happening, but in the manga having had the double whammy of finding out about Ross's conviction and Hughes situation all at the same time gave a good reason for the two to just run straight out on the streets to look for any possible leads to find out what the hell is going on as that is an extremely confusing situation to be in.

Very nice episode nonetheless. I would go so far as to say this episode was the best so far in Brotherhood in terms of staying true to the source material.

Finding out that he died of course. At that point they had no idea he'd been killed and they still haven't found out it was Envy in the anime. Plus the anime rearranged the order of events here because in the manga the brothers find out about Hughes' death and Maria Ross' conviction for it when Ed picks up the newspaper and sees an article about it, whereas in this episode Maria Ross just tells them straight which she wasn't able to do in the manga.

You're getting things confused. What f2akid is talking about is how it unfolds in the -manga- not the anime. In the manga they found out about both the murder of Hughes and Maria Ross's conviction at the same time, but didn't do it that way in the Brotherhood anime.

What happened in the manga was that they didn't know anything about either situation until they picked up a newspaper that said "Lt. Maria Ross has been convicted of the murder of Lt. Col. Maes Hughes".

I think that's the more effective way to handle it myself. Finding out one friend is dead and another is headed to prison for his murder- it's akin to being punched in the face and the stomach at the same time.

yeah you're right its more effective that way

but they prolly couldnt do that on fma brotherhood cause of the progression of the story interfered with the timeline of events

The death of Maria Ross had more sting to it in the manga, and I much preferred the manga version of the newspaper reveal - in the manga, that's not only how he finds out about Maria Ross being convicted of murder, but of Hughes' murder in the first place.
