Is Master Roshi from DBZ White or Chinese?

hello dbz fans, my idiot friend in real life told me master roshi is a white guy and i told him hes chinese then he said "stop backing up your race" and **** like that

is he chinese or not?

He's based on a Chinese character from Journey To The West IIRC, but he himself is neither. He's from Dragon World. So far as I can tell they dont have countries.

I always thought he was Armenian. I don't think the entire Dragonball franchise makes any sense otherwise.

He falls under the racial category of Dragonball character. There really is no ethnic separation in the Dragonball world aside from humans, artificial humans, demi-humans, monsters, aliens, and Mr. Popo.

Then again would Chaozu be human, considering he doesn't look even remotely human? More like a little pale boy wearing face & body paint? Would Tenshinhan not be considered human because he has three eyes?

I find the argument of what race he is to be a bit silly on your part. He's just an anime character. Is debating what race he is really worth starting an argument over?

This is ridiculous, it's obvious he is asian. Master Roshi is a parody of the old Kung fu masters from the Kung fu movies: An old man living alone in a forest (In this case, an island) who only teach his tecnique to one lucky guy (Yamcha mentioned that Master Roshi rarely accept pupils), he looks decrepit but he is one of the strongest warriors.

Dragon Ball is basically a homage to the Kung fu genre, Akira Toriyama was inspired by Drunken Master with Jackie Chan. Even when DB became a superheroes story in DBZ, Toriyama said that he always wanted to maintain a Eastern enviroment with clothes and architecture (The saiyan armors looks like a samurai armor, the clothes of the gods, etc.)

I assumed he was of some Asian-Decent, but I assumed that about most of the cast of Dragonball. Its based off China isn't it? Why wouldn't they be? Although, the argument is ridiculous from the start.

It's always been funny to me that the characters in Dragon Ball essentially turn into white people when they want to power up. I'm sure Hitler is smiling in his grave about how much Aryans are idolized in anime.
