Konami considering MGS4 for Xbox360

The big hit title, Metal gear Solid 4 (PS3), has been mentioned "To target a wider audience, we are considering to release it for Xbox360" (Konami). Konami is also looking into multi-platform like the other companies.

lol i was excited about this possibility a couple of months ago but i got a ps3 now, the only thing i wonder is how many DVDs will they use for it.

My guess would be the same number that they use for FFXIII.

I don't understand how it's not possible to put everything into one disc. Can someone explain this to me please?

To sum it all up into two words: Compression Limitations.

You can cram only so much data onto one disc. Blu-Ray has about a 12-1 storage capacity of DVD, ergo, SOMETHING needs to be smunched down.

But the more you compress something, the worse the quality becomes.

As a literal example, suppose we want to compress a pillow. If you compress it (pack it down) a little, you may not notice a difference in comfort. if you take an 18" by 12" pillow, and try to compress it down to a 3" by 2" cube, you lose that comfort ratio, and it's no good to you as a pillow anymore. It's the same amount of pillow, but it's so uncomfortable, why bother?

Apply that concept to a game. Take all the data of a near-full blu-ray disc, and smoosh it down so it fits on a DVD, and you'd have something that looks and plays like a PS1 game.

If it looks and sounds so crappy, why bother?

By comparison, we take the data from a blu-ray disc, compress it a little, and spread it out over 4 discs, and you end up with a game that plays comparably well to (but obviously not as great as) a blu-ray disc, you just have to switch out discs. It's like compressing your pillow a little, and cutting it into four pieces that you can reassemble later for about as much comfort (assuming this is a magic pillow that won't fall apart once reassembled).
