Actually, the convention situation in Florida is funny. There are several anime conventions across the state over the course of the year. Reference.

There's a joke, and from what I hear from most fans in Florida, it's based in a lot of truth, that conventions in Florida start, then someone gets pissed off at someone else, a whole bunch of drama erupts and they go and start their own convention. Ad nauseum. And, in fact, emphasis on the naus, because it all seems to be about personal egos and other stuff to make one nauseous.

Here's a list of conventions in your area, Shibito:
NarutoTrek Ft. Lauderdale (Ninja Klingons sound every bit as horrible as this convention. Because that's what it is.)
YasumiCon Miami
MizuCon Miami

You've got three conventions all within under two hours, hell, maybe under an hour (and two of them might actually be good!) that are decently spaced out on the calendar. It's not like you have to drive to Orlando or Tallahassee or worse - Panama City, the Redneck Riviera. If you'll complain about a drive to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, then I don't know what to tell you. Other than probably to whine and cry and start your own convention then - after all, everyone else in Florida has.

I've always wanted to go to Anime South in Destin... mostly because Richard Epcar (who I love) seems to be an annual guest. But also it'd be great to get out of cold St. Louis and check out a beachy resort area in late December/early January. Of course, after going to some larger cons like AWA and ACen I don't know if I'd enjoy a smaller con.

PS - Be glad you live in Florida and have so many cons within a few hours drive. In St Louis we got nothin'. I think the closest con is in Chicago (a 5 hr drive or a 45 min. plane ride away). I have to fly to all of the cons I attend.

There's a fairly small one held in West Palm called Chibi-Pa. I went last year and dispite being small, it's was TONS of fun. It's held this year at the West Palm Convention Center near City Place and is only $25.00 for a weekend ticket. It's help september 28th and 29th

when you go to conventions most of the time flyers are passed out about upcoming conventons , here's the upcoming ones in south florida

i went to Yasumicon (August 1-3) and it was a blast i was part of the staff and i bought lots of stuff, but the best thing is the food, shows, cosplay coliseum, lots more plus free 18+ anime movies.it's in Florida International University if you need the address for next year let me know im in the club that organizes it.oh by the way it's totally free.

the next convnetions are

Super Anime Day in Davie brought by Anime Supercon (11am to 12pm--or later) (954)882-2950 this is free only if you bought tickets to anime supercon
if not $10 or $8 in advance
4300 SW 57TH terrace Davie,FL

Then this is a major one Anime Supercon (October 31,Nov.1,Nov2)
1601 Biscayne Boulevard -Miami Fl (at the miami downtown hilton)

i paid $35 for an advance ticket because it so close to the convention, if i would have gotten before maybe.(but it is huge as hell)

mizucon is the last one in my hometown Dec 27-29 in the Hyatt Regency Miami (Miami,FL 95252-0955) its a brand new convention and it's dedicated to making fans of anime happy

heres the website www.mizucon.com

now for chibi-pa i wasnt to go but gas prices are too high plus hotel, and food, and everything else.

hopes this helps if anything don't hesitate to ask
