Correct pronunciation.

Recently a dispute has arrisen between some friends and myself over the correct pronunciation of "anime" and "manga." So i decided to ask all of you. What is the correct pronunciation for these two words?

Japanese pronunciation:
Ah-nee-may
(said with same pronunciation as *rah* on the Ah)

Mahn-gah

English pronunciation:
Ah-neh-may
(said with some pronunciation as *agh* on the a)

Maing-ah

Or so I've heard.

I say anime(aw-knee-may) and manga(mahn-ga) but I don't think it really matters. If a Japanese person has a problem with how you say their words, just say it's payback for Engrish.

Ok so some of my friends use the Japanese pronunciation and others use the American, it all makes sense now. I usually say a-knee-may(a like in agh) and mahn-ga.

Anime is pronounced as Levon said.

Manga is pronounced "man"+"ga". It's a short "a" in manga, as in the "man" in "manager". Not this "mahn" thing.

I say them as
A-nih-may (the 'A' said like in 'apple') and mayngah
as it was said above, animation without the 'tion'

and nobody can make me change that

Uh, depends on how you pronounce "garage". I pronounce it "garrij", others pronounce it "guhraaj".

Hmm, it's difficult to explain in text when you have a completely foreign accent, isn't it?

How about... it's like "anger" with a "m" in front and less "r" at the end...?

Hahahah ok i guess it seems there really is no correct pronunciation in America. I'll just keep saying anime like animation and manga like anger.

I pronounce it "a-nime" ("ime" as in "time" or "dime"). I just prefer it over the correct pronunciation.

As for manga, it is "man", with emphasis on the "n" and a hard "g" on the "ga". Three syllables in there.

The correct pronounciations are 「アニメ」 and 「マンガ」respectively. What's so difficult about that?
