Media Replacement
Back in June I purchased the Idols Galore CD-Rom (order number 337043). Recently my computer had a power supply failure and required total replacement. My problem now is that the Idols game will not play from the backup and the CD-Rom itself only shows one cda file (according to windows it is a 1 kB/ 40 minute audio file). I would like to get a replacement disk so that I can reinstall and continue my game (if possible).

I don't think AnimeNation warranties any of the products they carry unless they have some sort of manufactures' defect. You'll probably have to contact the licenser (the people who brought the game from Japan) to see if you can work something out.

The game disk DOES NOT WORK on my new computer, it worked perfectly well on my old one. If you don't want to call it a media defect then provide some way for me to get new media at a reduced price OR don't write the license to prevent me from making a archive copy.
BTW I have been to the licenser's site and they state that they will only deal with retailers not individual customers. As AnimeNation is the retailer they have to contact the distributer in this matter.

See, the CD media itself should not have changed. That tells me there's more going on than meets the eye.

IS a defect with the disk. New drive probably conforms closer to CD standard than disk does. Worked on my old comp, works now on a borrowed laptop and doesn't work on the new system (the ONLY disk that has a problem with the new system). All three are running XP pro w/updates.
So what I have is a disk/drive conflict that has ONLY occurred with this disk (which tends to rule out the drive as the at fault item) Don't know about you but that's what I call a media defect.

If it plays on any PC but yours it is your computer that is haveing the issue. If you replace the Cd it still will not play. Call your PC manufacturer and do some research on the brand and model of your disk drive, motherboard, firmware, and BIOS version.

Here's an odd idea, since I don't believe you're gonna get anyone to exchange a disc that's proven to work: Take any comparable media that's been burned on the borrowed laptop. If the new system can read that media, then here's what you try: On the borrowed laptop (where the disc works), make a copy of the original media, then use the copy on the new system. It's possible that the media burned by the borrowed laptop will be compatible with the new system's drive, even though the original media is not. I don't think that'll work, but hey, it's worth a shot if you run out of options.
