Questions on the Circumstances Surrounding my Temporary AN Digital Mortality

Hi AN moderators,

I'd like to clarify the reason(s) why I was banned. The private message I received states:

Quote:
Sarcastic and lewd comments in the hentai topic for a pathetic attempt to be funny are not allowed.
So my questions are:

1. Was I banned just for that reason?

2. Surely sarcastic comments are permitted? I've seen widespread sarcasm in a number of threads here. As for the comments being lewd, isn't that par for the course in the hentai forums? Furthermore, is it considered "trolling" to crack a few jokes to lighten up the atmosphere (I mean, I bet at least one of you had a chuckle)? The hentai forum regulars probably didn't mind and they're all 18+ anyway (or supposed to be); just standard stuff in a pub or bar.

3. There's this neat red card I received which is worth "2 points". What does that mean? Previously, I've only received yellows for "Flame baiting" and "Profanity".

For the record of anyone who bothers reading the AN Q&A subforum for such things, I'd just like to point out that I did not make a "Why was JFaulkner banned?" thread. Some people contend that I make them for everyone who gets a slap on the wrist, but I honestly don't.

I'll let this thread continue without further interruption, with the hope that hilarity will eventually ensue...

The speed at which you responded betrays a natural affinity to my posts. Your support is humbly appreciated!

Edit: P.S. Don't worry, I'm sure this thread will be entertaining.

There's nothing wrong with asking why you we're banned. It's something you should have a right to know. But I see no reason why it needed a thread, other than to be some kind of public spectacle to gather attention. Your banning is between you and the moderator that banned you, and that can be settled with a simple PM.

Whoa, you were banned for wise cracks in the hentai forum?

On several occasions I've been tempted to reply due to the thread titles that are displayed on the front page ("Rec: hentai with pregnant girls" -- seriously, I had to hold myself back several times).

In other news, no one has yet to reply for my request of a series that features full-frontal-furred ovine on ovine action. I've been sadly dismayed with this lack of response.

Is there an explanation for how the infraction system works here?

No offence, but I think the hentai forum is way too controlled and it doesn't even fit the mature atmosphere(it's supposed to be 18+, not 13 and under). When someone makes an interesting topic, it gets deleted. Instead, all the threads that exist now, are you're typical What hentai is this? Been there done that.

JFaulkner tries to make things interesting but instead he gets banned. Same thing happen to a bunch of other people over the years. That's AN for ya.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but didn't you spam up something like 10 threads with fake titles that were very over the top(I guess sarcastic and lewd might work)?

I got a laugh out of it, but you did still spam several threads all at once, which is a shame, because you were doing good in that other thread and I wanted to see more.

That is an infraction card. I've yet to receive one myself, so I only know about them in theory. As far as I'm aware, yellow cards are considered a warning and don't actually add to your point total. If you earn enough infraction points, you will find yourself banned. It's a way of letting someone know if they are gradually working their way towards a ban.

Of course the system isn't really being used effectively if that was the first red card you ever got. It can't serve as an effective deterrent if a single offense causes a ban.

I'd like to see more widespread use of the infraction system rather than arbitrary (if fitting) punishments doled out by individual moderators. I like a system that involves transparency and accountability.

However, I'm not here today to pick a fight with any of the staff.

They add up, if you collect enough you could win a temp ban or perma ban!

Bernard Monsha, the forum equivalent to those annoying Judge guys from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, only less annoying, and less pixelated, and he probably won't ever say something like "No using the word 'and' for the entirety of this thread".

JFaulkner, if you'd kept it up, I may have started believing you might have been the second coming of CTLesq, whom I have not had the (mis?)fortune to meet, but whose reputation precedes him.

Such humour is one to which I aspire, but cannot for lack of talent. I salute you.

I think this is worthy of public attention. The philosophy of the rules and regulations underlying the moderating party is at stake (not to mention their reputations). This will define whether people can crack jokes in the hentai forum with impunity.

Exactly, we're talking about the basic liberties of free speech and creativity here.

Neither am I; just looking for a calm and collected, reasonable discussion with our friendly moderators.

Awesome! So how many points do I need for a perma ban?

It hasn't escaped me that you and your moderator comrades skipped over 1. and 2. Why is that? I have nothing to hide, and I trust your collective integrity would call your conscience to answer.

P.S. Hajime Saitou and Holy_Knight - you're both invited to my exclusive fan club: all you need to do is give me your credit card details.

Did you really post 9,000 threads in the Hentai forum with crunk names? That's almost as funny as the time Haro! got the picture thread deleted by posting pictures of his uncovered phallus.

Heresy! You are trying to say The Ewok Adventure is in the same class The Empire Strikes Back.

There is no such thing as free speech on a moderated forum. You are resticted in what you can post here. The correct question would be:
Quote:
What did I do to get banned so that I may avoid it in the future?

It is a closely guarded secret but the tickets stay fresh indefinately. As we assume that posters on this forum are a bright lot and will remember what they can and cannot do after a reminder or reprimand.

1. Spam lots of it, lots of makeing people angry and lots of nasty-grams crammed in Mod mailboxes.

2. Yes, sarcasm is permitted so long as it does not compound # 1.
