Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji
Is anyone watching this series? It's by the same mang-ka that did Akagi. So far I've watched the first two episodes and I'm addicted. I never would have thought an anime about gambling would be so interesting. I kind of feel sorry for Kaiji though, poor guy has so much debt, and will do anything to eliminate it.

I never thought an anime about playing Mahjong could be so interesting. This is also same director as Akagi, and I'm following it.

Yes. I already posted my thoughts of the first episode of the series in another thread. It's great and i'm already loving it. I didn't watch episode two yet.

After 2 episodes I have to say I'm instantly hooked, and now I'm interested in seeing Akagi as well. I wouldn't say I feel sorry for em but its gonna be fun watching him get of predicaments.

I was going to start a thread about this about a week ago, but I didn't think I would get much interest. I really love the art design and the story is pretty intriguing compared to everything else out right now.

While Akagi had me hooked halfway through the first episode, I just stopped bothering with Kaiji after 4 episodes. It might be related to the fact that I don't really go for the whole comedy-of-embarrassment style in general.

Mr. Tines:
"Comedy-of-embarrassment"? What are you talking about? This series has nothing to do with that. Ok, my two cents. I haven't seen the anime, but I just finished the manga (13 volumes) and is getting onto its sequal. The artstyle, I have to say, was one big problem to me. (The face of Keiji, looking from the side, reminds me of drawings of moon... = =) If not for the reason my bf recommanded it to me, I would have missed this series forever. As for the story, it got me hooked very early on, and it's getting more and more intense and interesting. It is very thought-provokative, and had arised many discussions between my bf and I.

I expected Akagi-esque main character but got the polar opposite.
With that said, I still think Kaiji is easily the best show of the season. I love how it is puts the main character into a bigger pit of despair after each episode. Gets REALLY good around episode 8. And has something that is rare to a Fukumoto anime/manga, a female. I hope they adapt Ten into an anime. I want to see old Akagi.

My one and only complaint with this show is the little weird whispering in the background whenever something bad or dramatic happens..sounds like their saying 'chibi chibi'..annoying after a while

That is trademark of all Fukumoto manga, it is awesome. I have a t-shirt with "Zawa Zawa" all over it. I feel insulted by your post.
