Anime Novels

I don't know of many, and I think I'm interested in reading some, so if anyone knows of any and could post them here I'd appreciate it.

Just to be specific I'm not talking about manga, and i'm not really concerned if the book is a retelling or anything like that, I'm not picky. Thanks again.

I highly recommend the novels upon which The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime is based. Posting a link to the translations is verboten, but google can find them pretty easily.

Just some of the many anime/light novels that I can think of right now:

Slayers
Slayers _____ (the other series by Hajime Kanzaka that is longer than 15 volumes)
Kino no Tabi
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (as mentioned by Leader Deelosck)
Gravitation (written in America)
.hack//AI Buster (recommended)
.hack//Another Birth
Gundam SEED (written in America and incomplete)
CLAMP School Paranormal Investigators
Death Note
Yu-Gi-Oh (I think it's related to the movie)

Kinda sleepy, so I can't think of any more right now.

^ In addition:

Full Metal Panic (Tokyopop)
The Twelve Kingdoms (also Tokyopop)
Maria-sama ga Miteru (Unlicensed)
Strawberry Panic (Seven Seas)
And Rurouni Kenshi as at least one novel. (Viz)

I'd recommend the Maria-sama ga Miteru novels, I haven't read much, but I've liked it so far. What I've read of the Gundam SEED novels has been alright so far. I own the first two Shakugan no Shana novels, but I haven't made any progress into translating/reading them personally.

I'd like to read Tomino's Mobile Suit Gundam novel. Can get it for around $15 and its 480 pages, good deal. This thread just reminds me that I should buy it.
I believe its what Tomino really wanted the anime to be like but the company wouldn't allow him to go that far. Its very different from the anime.

"The characters are deeply layered, with complex motivations and beliefs. Jealosy, family rivalry, sex, lust for power, suspicion, fear, and a host of other all-too-human attributes influence the flow of the narrative, with the fog of war confusing the judgements of both sides.... this book is ultimately a page-turner...." -- Andrew J. Weber, in The Asian Reporter

I wish the Zeta Gundam novels were released in English.

I've looked for the Gundam novel a couple a times at my local bookstores, but I've never been able to locate it, sadly.

If you liked Please Teacher, there is a somewhat ecchi novella out called Kei & Mizuho's Diary that was a good read.

If you're interested in BL novels, DMP has licensed a few novels, including Only the Ring Finger Knows. (which I highly recommend)

Tokyopop was translated the Seikai: Crest of the Stars trillogy. These are the original novels on which the Crest of the Stars anime are based. Quite good if you are interested in epic scifi.

There is also a set of novels for the sequal, Banner of the Stars, but I am not sure if those have been translated yet or not.

Appreciate the suggestions from everyone. I have picked up a few now.

The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadow - Currently reading this one, and it's great, better than the anime I think. Taking my time with it so I can better enjoy.. don't want to end a good thing too quickly.

.hack//AI buster 2 - I've already read the first one and was suprised to see a second volume so I decided to pick it up.

Brave Story - Don't know why I bought this one honestly, looks kind of cheesy and the title sounds like a childrens book haha. I think I was drawn in by the cover art. This book is THICK though, almost 900 pages, a huge book.

Yeah so I'm going to get started on those, when I come across some more money I'll try to find Full Metal Panic for sure, and probably Haruhi and Crest of the Stars.
