I've fallen into the fansubber abyss

I realize I'm concurrently watching Lucky Star, Nanatsuiro Drops, Moetan, Sky Girls, Kamichama Karin (though I've not watched 13 and 14 yet), Lovely Complex, and Potemayo with StrkerS on hold till I feel better about it.

That's more anime right now then I've watched in the last year. Since ALL last year I only saw Kanon 2006, Lovely Idol, Shuffle!, and Haruhi this is flabbergasting. There's simply too much I've waited so long to see, well ok, my friend insisted on Lucky Star and Lovely Complex but I thank him.

I just can't believe I'm watching so much, and all but Lucky Star I'll admit I have no desire to buy goods for, either DVDs or whatever.

Kinda weird. Remember the days running to the video store to rent anime?

Yeah

I still rent from the video store myself....and take whatever's on TV...on my DVD shelf...& fansubbed.
I can't even look at myanimelist now, but everyday I need to update in some form. It's addicting.

Yeah it is addicting. Real addicting. I don't feel bad about it, I mean, Sky Girls and Lucky Star maybe? have a chance. But Kamichama Karin? Nanatsuiro Drops? They're hosed in the US. Potemayo took me 2 days to download for heaven's sake and it just got subtitled!

Yea I have the same problem, I am downloading shows I know I wont even like but I feel like I wanna be caught up with them. That doesnt even include older shows, my own dvds and manga that I like. Sometimes I feel like staying up to date is not even possible

I am probably gonna cut down the shows I am watching to about 5, including Claymore, Lovely Complex, and a few others

None of those anime have finished airing yet, and none of them are licensed. It may still be illegal, but he can't physically buy those anime yet.

I'm with Matsu'o on this.

I'm 100% against fansubs, fansub groups and fansub-watching people. It disgusts me when people watch the fansubs but don't buy the DVDs when they come out as a method of repenting for illegal activity. Licensed or not. You should still support the companies, staff and animation studios for their hard work and effort, by buying the official product when and if it is released on DVD - even if you hated it. It's only right to correct for your illegal actions. I've never watched a fansub, nor do I plan to - EVER.

Kamichama Karin is probably the only one without a future here in Region 1. NanaDrops is Geneon or FUNi bait, given its Noizi Ito character designs. It appears that Noizi Ito sells.

I live in england so the only way for me to watch anime was too bye it on DVD but fan subbing has changed all of that and i thank them for it. Now i only need to bye the shows that i really enjoy. I have a ton of anime DVDs and thanks to fan subbing i have a lot of shows that i am looking forward to buying when they come out. Code geass, claymore and Magical Pokan are just some of the animes on my list and i think that fan subs do a lot of good as japanese people can watch these shows for free on TV and this must in some way fuel the sale of anime DVDs.

Out of curiosity, Sarky, how are you watching D.Gray-man?

Maybe he's reading the manga? Isn't that already published in English? I have no idea how much of it, though...

Eh... dude... There really isn't any other way people can watch the series in their language. Unless they wait a very long time...for over priced DVD's. Learn to appreciate fansubs and the joy they bring to people. not to mention all the hard work that goes into them.

Fan subs don't bother me but It really does bother me when a group still subs a series when it's licensed. It defeats the whole purpose of fan subs in the first place. There's only a few groups who follow the ethics of fan subs and I respect that.

The only plus for fan subs to me is, being able to watch older shows that have no chance what so ever getting licensed for a R1 release. There's some great shows out there, and if for some magical reason those shows got licensed, I would support the release.

I'm going to disagree here. The internet has changed the way people buy things now. Back then, the internet wasn't as accessible and there were no review sites. You had to basically buy something and hope for the best. Even if you don't download fan subs, you would still like to know more about the show before you are going to buy it. If you bought everything blind, you would be really disappointed half of the time.

lol, dude, basic economics and the fact that consumers drive the market is changing the way anime will be distributed in the future, the same way music is going from cd to online, this is just a change, but I seriously doubt half the subbed shows make it to america, and I feel that most people here would buy the series they watch and really like anyways. I feel its about the same as TIVOing something on cable. The only series I am watching after its been licensed is Gurren Lagann, and thats because I love it so much I already am saving money to buy the DVDs.
