Best Ever Video Games Characters ?

My Favorite Games Character Has To Be Dante (from Devil May Cry for PlayStation 2)
When Dante bust on the scene, he showed gamers you could do stuff that before then one only dreamed about. Complete with long overcoat, arrogant swagger, and cocky one-liners, Dante could swat enemies in the air with a sword, and then juggle them with a steady flow of bullets from his dual pistols. He could also handle his sawed-off shotgun with one hand and blow enemies to smithereens, or holster his weapons and take on enemies mano-a-mano.

She is by far my most favorite video game character. Her personality, her Japanese voice actress, her character design, it's all awesome. Nin nin!

Runner Ups:
Etna (Disgaea) - Laharl's evil sidekick who controls the prinny team.
Laharal (Disgaea) - Obnoxious prince who is fighting to be the overlord of the netherworld.
Asagi (bonus hidden character in various Nippon Ichi games) - She always complains about how NIS promised her a lead role in a video game, yet she keeps showing up as a hidden bonus character. Her little bonus thing in Disgaea 2 was awesome.
Viki (Suikoden series) - Clumsy teleporting mage girl who randomly appears and doesn't know where she is. Once you recruit her, she lets you teleport to anywhere you've been before in the game.
Aya (Parasite Eve) - Strong female with a no nonsense personality.
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) - Strong female persona. Very intelligent, with a great British accent.
Glenn (Chrono Trigger) - Frog guy with a strong sense of honor and duty. Puts others before himself, yet he has a harsh and unforgiving past.
Mint (Threads of Fate) - Spunky girl who doesn't let anybody tell her what to do.
Kratos (God of War) - Bonified badass. Doesn't even let Gods tell him what to do.
Wanderer (Shadow of the Colossus) - Never says a word, yet devotes his entire being to the woman he loves. (edit: well he says his horse's name I guess, but not much else)
U-1 (Gitaroo Man) - Perserveres against evil and saves the girl he loves.
Big Sis Prinny (Disgaea) - Eloquent female prinny that plays a pretty important role in the Disgaea storyline.
Jill Valentine (Resident Evil) - Female S.T.A.R.S. member who is sent with a team to investigate a missing S.T.A.R.S. team. She's apparently the "Master of Unlocking".
Ratchet (Ratchet & Clank) - Smartass guy who saves the world and gets an ego.
Clank (Ratchet & Clank) - Sarcastic robot with a British accent. (Thanks Sendo for reminding me about R&C)
Ayane (Dead or Alive) - Purple haired ninja girl who is sisters with Kasumi. She was conceived when Raiden raped her mother.
Kasumi (Dead or Alive) - Leaves her ninja clan to look for her kidnapped brother. She kicks high.
Nakoruru (Samurai Showdown) - Young ninja girl with a pet hawk named Mamahaha. I can't help but grin when I win a battle with her and she says "Arigatou Mamahaha" to her hawk.
Hibiki (The Last Blade) - Samurai girl with a cool sheathed sword fighting style. She feels bad whenever she slices somebody in half.

I always liked Zidane and Vivi from FFXI, dunno why. Who esle though? Max Payne is probably my favorite character, he's badass.

Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell) His dark yet hilarious comments while holding a knife to some sorry guard's neck always crack me up.

Black Yoshi (Yoshi's Story) He can eat chili peppers...that just screams "cool".

Link (Zelda) Duh...

Ridley (Metroid) For this guy to come back to life and fight Samus so many times, he deserves honorable mention. Heres hoping that he is playable in SSB:B.

Grey Fox (MGS) Since he was involved in the most epic cut scenes ever.

Mecha Sonic (Sonic 2) Even more badass then Sonic himself.

Watt (Paper Mario) The strongest partner in Paper Mario IMO.

Midna (Zelda: TP) The most personality a Zelda game ever had.

Vivi (FF9) Vivi is a pimp, 'nuff said.

Aggro (Shadow of the Collossus) How did he live???

Dante was the first character I played as that allowed me to do what he could do in a 3d environment. I'd say he's a perfectly viable choice as one of the "best". You should change your title to "now with 900% sarcasm"

The best ever video game character I'd have to say is Link. He's the renaissance man of Hyrule; the dude does EVERYTHING! Kill the monsters, slay the demons, rescue the princess, topple the evil ranch owner, milk the cows, everything! He's the warrior, and the sorcerer, wielding weapons of the most powerful caliber (in his environment) as well as some devastating magic (bombos anyone?).

Some of my other favorites, though:
Vergil - Yeah, I know, as Dante's twin, I might as well say "dante", but I felt Vergil had more personality.

Mega Man - Capcom's Renaissance man.

Cloud Strife - very fanboyish of me, I know, but who, before cloud, did omnislash?

Fei/Xenogears - one of the more fleshed out characters in an RPG, ever.

Cao Pi - Yeah, you can laugh at his name, but he's my fave guy in Dynasty Warriors 5
