Which version did you pick up? There are several. In order:
Ah! My Goddess manga - An excellent manga, very long running. Ah! My Goddess OAV - At 5 episodes long, it's a pretty good show for the fans, but too compressed to capture the feel of the manga. Ah! My Goddess Movie - A very good movie in its own right, it does justice to Keiichi and Belldandy. Seeing Urd and World Of Elegance in combat is pretty cool, too. Adventures of the Mini Goddesses - It's 48 very short episodes long that's basically an animated equivalent of the 4-panel gags in the manga. The goddesses are in subdivided mini-form, and most of their adventures involve Urd and Skuld making life rather difficult (trying to help, naturally) for a rat living in the temple. Lots of subcultural references, and a load of laughs. Ah! My Goddess TV - Now at two seasons, this is a retelling of the manga - not strict to canon, but more along the lines of what the creator would make for a series if he knew then what he knows now. An excellent series that overcomes all of the shortcomings of the OAV; it's one of my favorites.

Its a great comedy, theres romance but if you expect it to get really serious & deep it won't happen. You'd best look toward classics like Maison Ikkoku & Touch if you want comedy & serious romance.

Ah! My Goddess (Aa! Megami-sama) is considered one of the greatest romance/comedy series of all time!! If you enjoyed Ai Yori Aoshi, this series will interest you. The Oh! My Goddess OVA is really great and while it's the oldest of the series (released in 1993), I still think it's the best version that has been animated. Sure it's only 5 episodes, but it's 5 episodes with romance/comedy goodness!! AnimEigo did a great job when they released it domestically. It was really sweet to see, and I never get tired of watching it even to this day!!
There was also a 48 episode Adventures of Mini-Goddess TV series consisting of 7 minute episodes that came out in 1998, and I thought they were easily the cutest and funnest short episodes I have seen in anime. All characters here were redrawn into a chibi form, and this series in general is much more comedic in general. I haven't seen much of this, but I know I would enjoy this very much. The Ah! My Goddess: The Movie released in 2001 was a really great too, and we got to see a different version of things that happen in this series. It takes place after the OVA, and the animation and music was among the most spectacular I have seen. I would highly recommend this for any fan. Lastly, there are two new TV series seasons that recently came out in Japan called Ah! My Goddess TV and Ah! My Goddess: Flights of Fancy TV. Both have also been released domestically. The animation looks notically different from that of the original OVA but it looks to follow the newest part of the manga much more closely. Speaking of which, the manga had been ongoing in Japan for many years up even to this day. This series has impressed me quite a lot.

If you are talking about the recent two season that aired on TV and have been licensed here, I would say Yes. I would also suggest Onegai Teacher & Kimagure Orange Road . . .

Ah! My Goddess is more of the same with its own unique twist on the genre. If you liked those things you listed, then you should like AMG. The last thing I would call it is a big let down, so you don't have to worry about that. I'm pretty sure you've made some recommendation threads before, so I'm not going to throw any titles out there, as I've probably already done that in the past.

Seems you are also in the Harem genre. I can recommend a few for you:
(The gender that the main cast mainly is.) Air (F) Kanon (F) Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (F) DNA2 (F) Ouran High School Host Club (M) Utawarerumono (Unknown but thinking M) Shuffle! (F) Da Capo (F) Maburaho (F) |

If you haven't seen Da Capo yet then you should give it a try. I get the feeling you might like it.

Love Hina - I never seen it my self. It's a typical harem. One of the more known ones though. Id say it's a love or hate show. People tend to like the manga more. Dual - Not really your type of show imo. It's more a parody of Evangelion and a comedy series it self. CCS - Id say watch it. It's an original and should be right up your alley. XXXHolic - I like the manga, so you can't go wrong with the series. If im not mistaken it's more episodic than story progressive. Bleach - I'm definitely not a Bleach fan nor will I ever be. I find it to be a sad excuse of a shounen. I don't think it will appeal to you at all. You wan't a good shounen you watch One Piece. Last edited by lav2k4; June 9th, 2007 at 11:15 AM. |
