Simoun Licensed By Media Blasters

Although I haven't seen this info showing up anywhere else, this blurb was posted this morning over on Anime on Dvd's site:

Media Blasters Nabs Simoun (08:16 AM EDT): First showing up on the Anime Central lists and now confirmed by yuri blogger Okazu, it appears that Media Blasters has indeed picked up the series Simoun.

All I got to say is - Awesome!!! Plus it's Media Blasters so they'll either do a really good job with a dub release or they'll give us a non-dub release but at a less expensive price point! I'm thrilled!!! Since they seem to focus on a lot of yaoi and yuri themed titles, maybe they'll pickup Air Master at some point. Killer!!!

Haven't Toei animation picked that one up?

Wasn't Toei animation the original creator?
I don't know who had the license but apparently they never finished releasing it and now it's unlicensed again.

It's nice that they licensed this! I've been wanting to see it for a while, so I'll definitely give it a try.

Air Master was part of Toie's attempt to release their titles in the US on their own. Geneon was distributing the discs but not actually responsible for creating them, and apparently word of mouth got around that the releases were sub-standard for R1 customers. I think Toie did them as dub only (as opposed to sub only, which one might think would be the way they would've done it) and I believe they had no chapter stops. So the line, which included a couple of other titles outside of Air Master (was Slam Dunk one of them?) tanked before the entire series was released. But it's such a freakin' killer show, I really hope someone gives it a second shot here in the US.

For now, I'll just have to be happy that Simoun is getting an R1 release. This is a most excellent show combining spectacular sci-fi with yuri and really great characters. I wonder what the release date will be. Hopefully we can expect it before the end of the summer.

I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone know what happened with the whole "Toei releasing their stuff in the US on their own," deal? I haven't looked up or heard anything about it since ADV lost the Saint Seiya licensing :/

And what is Simoun about? To stay on topic a bit ^^;;

Um, see my post right above yours for the Toie explanation thing.

Simoun is a yuri sci-fi show about another world where everyone is born female and chooses their sex at a certain teenage year... whether they want to become male or stay female. The show follows the adventures of a group of 12 female pilots who fly Simoun ships in pairings. Among them is Neveril, who is mourning the loss of her late beloved partner, and hot-headed Aearu, who wants to be the best of the best and is determined to have Neveril as her pair. It's got lots of great stuff... cool character designs, wicked air assaults and action, intriguing sci-fi, yuri romances, and most of all wonderful characterization.

Wow...serious? That sounds quite interesting. Every guy gets to say "I remember when I was a little girl" now, haha. I might have to see this one.

Ah. Basically what I was asking was whether or not the whole thing was still going on, because I had never seen any product, but I guess it did bomb.

And that sounds interesting...Not usually a sci-fi fan but I'll give it a try. Sounds different. Of coursem I picked up the first volume to KnM too a while ago for the same reason and it is STILL sitting in my drawer, vacum sealed .
