o_O Somebody other than two other people that I know talking about They Were 11? Craziness I tell you.
I really enjoyed the movie as well. Gotta love the stuff that actually keeps you guessing until the very end. This movie had you playing detective as you watched, trying to look for any suspicious character traits that could help tip you off on who the 11th person was. I expect to see a lot of stuff I didn't notice the first time around when I get to watching it a second time, as well. That's always a good thing.

Thoughts? *long pause* I can't believe there is a thread about this... I'm glad there is though because it's very deserving of one. They Were Eleven is one of my favorite movies for many different reasons. The plot is all over the place and had me guessing till the bitter end. I watched it again a few weeks ago and spotted tons of details and subtle character actions that I missed the first time. I've recommended it to five people so far, each for whever reason bought and watched it right away and agree that it's a great movie. To those reading this, do youself a favor and add it to your next order ($5-7 at the most). It's a gem that should be owned by everyone.

Add my vote to the immense enjoyment of discovering They Were Eleven . My first viewing of it was VHS subtitle back in or around '95. I bought the DVD later of course and also discovered how happy I was that these things are now hybrid and carry both sub and dub. Why? Because after I saw the dub version I was horrified: the English dub veers to far away from direct translation many times and blatantly gives too much of the story away at the beginning. Bleh.

Wow, I'm shocked to see a thread on this movie as well. After getting a recommendation from Hisoka for this movie, I knew to expect greatness, but I didn't realize what I was in for. Some of the craziest cross-genre work ever - classic, sci-fi, mystery, shoujo. And directed by the brother of my favorite director no less. *Laughs*
But yeah, They Were Eleven is such an overlooked gem, Hisoka couldn't be more right about that. My second viewing of the movie was just as entertaining as the first, the curiosity and guesswork replaced with a new attention to detail. These sort of titles are always fun to rewatch and examine closely for things missed the first time. Man, good thread. Certainly didn't expect to see a thread like this on AN, a very pleasant surprise. |
