Special Meaning for Blue?
I read in Anime Invasion that the reason the number eight appears often in Anime titles is that Japanese people consider the number lucky. I started thinking recently that several Anime have the word blue in the title. Blue Seed, Blue Submarine No. 6, Perfect Blue, Blue Gender, Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, LA Blue Girl, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, The Third: The Girl With the Blue Eye. So, does Japanese culture place some sort of importance on the word blue or it's color?

Blue Sub No.6 is called that because I believe just that the sub is blue while Blue Gender, the race of bad guys was called blue, but anime titles do have a lot more blue than say green or brown lol

They didn't have to make the sub blue, or call the bad guys in Blue Gender blue. That's why I think there is some reason for it.

Would you prefer red? Blue is just a color. Plus take into account that a good few series with "Blue" in the title revolve around the ocean (Nadia of the Deep Blue Sea, as I recall, Tide-Line Blue, Blue Sub No.6, etc).

Blue Seed, Blue Gender, and LA Blue Girl have nothing to do with the ocean. I was just wondering why blue seems to be in a large number of Anime titles.

Blue Gender - The race of the bugs or what ever is called Blue.. hence Blue Gender.
Miko is a demon-half-breed and has the blue coloured blood of the Shikima, hence the title 'La Blue Girl'. Blue Seed has to do with the series it self. The main character has to carry a Blue seed. You may say, but why is the color blue used? Well for starters Blue is probably the most common color. It represents The sea, sky, peace, etc. In many diverse cultures blue is significant in religious beliefs, brings peace, or is believed to keep the bad spirits away. It's just a color and the usage in Anime has a meaning to the series it self. |

I'm sorry to say that if the color blue has a special significance or meaning in Japanese culture, I'm not familiar with it.

I personally think it's just preference.

I see what you mean, but if you think about it, all of the titles make sense. Blue from Wolf's Rain, for example. She's got blue fur. Ta dah!

Ai Yori Aoshi means "Bluer than Indigo" from what I have heard. So yet another blue. I found this under trivia for that show, maybe its related..
"The title, Ai Yori Aoshi ("Bluer Than Indigo") is based on an old Chinese proverb: blue dye is made from indigo colored grass, yet the blue dye's color is much deeper than the color of its origin. In another words, the pupil has exceeded the master."

I wonder if it could be that water is blue, and Japan is an island?
