The series makes mention of some of these facts, but a copuple in that wikipedia entry are taken from the sequel/retelling Macross Flashback 2012 and Macross Movie: Do You Remember Love?. Like Area88 said.
Since all three productions Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982), Macross Movie: Do You Remember Love? (1984) and Macross Flashback 2012(1987) were all made about the same story and all take place at roughly the same time, many fans consider the three inseperable as story telling elements of the same narrative. So you'll often read fans talking about Hikaru and Misa's marriage in the context of SDF Macross as if it was shown in the original television series. Also keep in mind that since the two did marry in the end, many of the foreshadowing scenes in SDF Macross can be taken literally (such as Misa's dream of seeing herself and Hikaru with a child when she looks upon another pair of new parents on the street). Macross Movie: Do You Remember Love? (1984) is a film length retelling of the series with phenomenal animation for it's time (much of which stands up even today, like the quality of Akira). Macross Flashback 2012(1987) is a short 30 video montage of mostly music and some new animation showing Misa, Hikaru, and Minmay's departure from Earth. Oh yeah, and check out my website (link in my signature) if you're a Macross fan

No, it does. It's mentioned in numerous books about Macross. The first mention of Miku Ichijo is in the 1983 book Best Hit Series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Macross Graffiti, which is an official reference that includes interviews with staff and individual episode commentary by Shoji Kawamori. Two of Max and Milia's eventual seven post-SDF Macross daughters are mentioned.

Thanx for the answers. Incidently how old is Misa really meant to be? Wiki says 19 at the start of the series but if that's true it seems stange that Hikaru would be calling her "old lady".

Has he seen her at that point? Perhaps her voice just makes her sound older to him than she really is. I'm pretty sure that when he first called her that, he'd only heard her voice on the comm.

Misa is 21, Hikaru is 18 and Minmay is 17. I think DYRL is vastly superior to the tv series. |

I just finished watching DYRL so I feel qualified to say......... BLASPHEMY!!!!! Visually speaking I agree but I think it would be quite difficult for a two hour film to improve upon a series like Macross in any other aspect. One more question I'd like to ask is if the Zentradi are fighting the Supervision army elsewhere then why are they so interested in capturing the Macross intact? Surely they have lots of other oppurtunities to capture Supervision army ships.

The most likely explanation is both an age difference, Hikaru's immaturity/lack of social grace (very applicable for a show like Macross aimed at pre-tee/teen males) and Misa's own unemotional inflexibility which makes others perceive her as cold and older than she actually is.

However, they noticed that the ship was rebuilt/repaired (a skill the Zentradi did not have), and thought there was something special. Also, they realised that the humans had reactionary weapons (ie. nukes), and wanted them for their war against the Supervision army.

I just watched the first two episodes of Macross last night (original, not the butchered dubbed remake) and you see Misa yelling at him on the right screen when he's sitting relaxed on the tarmac in VT102. He hears her for the first time when he's confirming his invitation after she picks him up on radar.
QUESTION: I have not seen it on the actual animation what-so-ever, or in the Macross Perfect Memory book, which way U.N.SPACY is supposed to go on the GU-11 Gunpod? I have the japanese boxart book and it's both ways...upside down and right side up. I'm tempted to put one side up and the other down until I see canon proof (no pun intended). To me, if theres UN SPACY right side up on the leg in plane mode, the GU-11 is upside down, but should be legible in Battroid. HELP?! |
