I dunno, definations of what is a "mental illness" sometimes cause me to contemplate, as I often see many definations of the various types of illnesses abound.

For the most part, it's any mental state that interferes with one's ability to function in normal life (working, schooling, human relationships, that sort of stuff that is, you know, grounded in reality) and causes distress for the person suffering from the mental illness.

To me, preferring fictional characters to real people is akin to having an imaginary friend, something that normal, well-adjusted children grow out of very soon after they've learned how to form mental representations. Knowing that these characters are unattainable in every sense of the word, I can't imagine it doing anything other than eventually causing distress if people continue to prefer fictional characters to real people. (and before anybody draws the "celebrity" card, I find it just as weird when people declare their undying love and devotion for celebrities...but eh, Logic be damned)

...and thus, interesting. Geez. Faced with a world full of real, different and interesting people, folks are preferring to live with cartoons. If tht's not a mental illness, I don't know what is.

Im just looking at it from the most realistic view ironically.The world is many things,but if you was to see someone infront of you.You can be dissapointed with what you see,everyone has their own prefrences.Their own likes and dislikes,some like things others may not.

Its not a mental illness,i would say its a form of denial.Real people can be imperfect,like i said before.Some cant..dont..or wont deal with it.

It is often said that first year psychology undergraduates finish the year convinced that they have about half a dozen mental illnesses. It is very hard do define a mental illness precisly.

For example most people give the same answer if asked what schizophrenia but that answer doesn't cover most of the symptoms, just what is used in films.

For another example you seem to be rather full of your self Desslock but would be innacurate to say that you have a narcissistic personality dissorder.

Seriously though Rebekah1 if it is bothering you you ought to take a break from anime. Of coures if you have then you're not reading this and it was a bit of a waste of time
