If you can't do that, then maybe you'll finally realize that you're addicted and NEED to do it.

There are plenty of books (not manga) to be read, there are plenty of movies (not animated) to be watched, there are plenty of outdor activities involving three dimensions in which you could participate. Again, if you're unable to do these things, then that just tells you how much you need to. And if you still can't, knowing that you need to - there's your proof you need therapy.

Goodbye, Rebekah. See you in a month. Let us know how it worked out. Or rather - don't. The majority of us really don't care. For those that do, you could maybe chronicle your exploits in a blog. Put a link to it in your sig. Anyone who's interested will find it.

Good luck.
thanks for the advice everyone ^^

I did.... really wasn't hard. Buy a ticket to a country and go on an active vacation. You might be to young for that, so try music... I swear I listen to maddening amounts of music. 4-6 hours a day O_O- some people might say that is unhealthy, but I'm not listening to crap. Alot of the music has themes about life, love, multi-nat'l corporations, Blood thirsty Broadcast stations, propaganda, flag suckeling imbeciles, social damage, and civil disobedience.

The idea is, find something you can identify too. Join a small team, learn to cook, discover things that interest you. 2D complexes tend to be superficial... and obviously fake. Find something your attracted to, over it's face value that is real.

Alot of anime fans like martial arts, that is a god hobby.

Some even like the psychotic-attention-***** type too. (I'm not one of them, well not one like this particular case anyway)

It's actually pretty easy. Don't get on the internet. Unplug your dvd player. Stay away from channels that air anime. Go outside, go places, read a book, watch movies with 3D people.

Actually, if I watch too much anime, I get sick of it for a while. That's how I take a break.

Same here. I used to watch too much anime, and now I'm sick of it, and I haven't watched any for six months.

OMG, you people are just soooooo slow. Also, if being called slow isn't bad enough, you're being called slow by Midoriko. And, let's face, I'm a few pennies short of a Chicken Nugget. See what I mean?

I have the Astigmatism and the Farsightedness, and I recognize Game when I see it? What's your excuse?

It sounds very much like you should join Rebekah on her little sabbatical and unplug as well.

Well, MJ already has the nose for being a stereotypical anime character.

But considering humans, all of we different humans, past and present, engage in escapism, would you not agree that it only seems relatively worse and especially frequent now because people are free to express their fantasies more openly and all throughout the world faster (thus increasing the chances of drawing other interested parties) , not to mention the line bewteen reality and fantasy seemingly blurs more often as we progress into the future?
<Internet>
Mental Illness? Perhaps for some(ie, they can never seem to break their habit, addiction), but I do also see it as an inevitable result of one's individual life, with all of its promises and dissapointments. Does that change the defination of what said people have? I would stake my opinion on that, I'm not well versed in etymology, especially concerning biological and human conditions. I suppose since I consider myself to mentally healthy (at this time o.o), is where my slight questiong comes from. I mean, I used to be in love with Ash Ketchum from Pokemon, and went through a slew of "anime bfs" over real people, who I though were not worth it. All of this until 7th grade. A bit late, some would say, ne?
But I can't argue that's it's more socially accpectable (with good reason, mind you) for children, or even younger teens(?) to perfer a fantasy life. Whether it's good for them or not is another subject, up for debate. Could be both harmful and benefical, like some many other ineteractions taht shape a person in the long run...
Those younger people better be ready to part with it at some point in their lives nontheless.
Some people, young or older may very well have nothing else. And some are just deluded and ignorant of those truly suffering out there in this diverse world of ours....perhaps...sometimes as a result of our differences that others refuse to accept.
I dunno, definations of what is a "mental illness" sometimes cause me to contemplate, as I often see many definations of the various types of illnesses abound.
