Berserk censored?

Hello i was thinking about byeing Berserk but wanted to know if the region 1 verson was censored.

I like things that are realistic and feel let down when they cut things out like ADV did with hellsing as thats not how the peolpe who made it wanted it to be seen.

And please no spoilers

Berserk isn't censored at all and this is the first I've ever heard that things were cut out of Hellsing. Geneon released that btw so maybe you're thinking about something else.

Hellsing on TV diddn't have any edits at all, because it aired on Encore. Unless you watched it in another country that edited it. ?

Also, ADV had nothing to do with Hellsing. [edit]- Nevermind, I see ADV released it in the UK. Maybe they edited it, I don't know.

Most anime on DVD is unedited.

I had no idea the UK has even more strict guidelines on censorship than the US; that is, assuming the R2 DVDs aren't uncut like ours.

Not that I'd ever watch anime like Berserk or Hellsing again, but I can't imagine how edited they could potentially be.

Think of it this way - the same way nudity is treated on broadcast TV here in the States is the same way more extreme violence is treated in Europe. Bizzare parallell.

*ECHO ECHO* Sure, it's uncensored.

I won't even bother why either of these countries focus on censoring both, since I don't watch anything with either form of content.

Still, this does bring up a good question: what would you rather see on television, super special hardcore gay megaporn, or blood and gore literally raining down on the camera?

To be honest, while hardcore porn and instances of nudity aren't permitted on television, they are still readily available to those old enough or willing to lie about thier age in the US. In Europe, I think the violence is still removed, even on private home video.

I also pay attention to neither on TV really. Sure, those crazy porn commericals in Germany were cool, like, the first night we were there (the street posters were more strange to me) but they get old fast. Likewise, violence on American TV usually does little to phase me. I'm just a pretty docile person, I guess.

When i first got into anime the first anime i got was neon genesis evagelion on VHS over here in england and after the first episode misato tells you about the next episode then she says "Oh and of course more fan service"

Fan service? What is this fan service that they talk of,much later i found out that they cut all the pantie shots out like the one with misato in episode 1 and when askua gets a gust of wind on the aircraft carrier.

Apart form this i have no idea what eles they cut out so when DVD's came alone
i decided to get all my anime from the USA as if they can cut things like this what eles do they cut.

Actually, I don't recall any mention of Asuka's panties outside of the dialogue, but I could be wrong. It's been a long time.

We're fortunate that while there are broadcast cuts made on nearly every title, all but a small handful are available to us in an uncut format as was seen in Japan.

The "Gust of Wind" scene didn't show anything. The characters saw it, but not the audience. I don't remember any panty shots in the whole series, actually. Despite Misato's claims of fanservice every episode, there is very little of it in the series.

Fanservice is one of those terms where in Japan the meaning differs slightly than how it differs outside of Japan. When most non-Japanese fans think of fanservice, we think of the ecchi panty shots or other forms of subtle sexuality. While this is included in the Japanese definition, it is a more broad term also including homages to past works that fans of the genre (such as Eva's homages to Ideon or other mecha series) will notice and pick out, but aren't necessary to understand the show, making it different than parody in a show like Excel Saga or Martian Successor Nadesico.

While it's not all panty shots or naked "teh Rei" in every episode, there are instances of fan service in nearly every episode. I've never taken the time to research exactly what they are, but I am sure some of the more Eva-savvy mecha fans would be able to list some more examples.
