Starting the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga Help! (spoilers!)

Hey,

I have recently finished viewing the FMA anime series (and movie) and it was wonderful and all that good stuff. But is it ever enough? No, I wanted more. So I went online and discovered that the manga and anime stories are very different (shock!). So I was wondering a few things, and would love it if you all can help me out.

*Anime Series Spoilers Ahead!*

First off, the whole two worlds storyline, is that in the manga? If so, is the story the same. For example, are the brothers going to be stuck in our world? If it is a different storyline then just say so, but don't spoil anything too important.

Secondly, I read that the stories split at a certain point. I was wondering which volume does that occur in, so that I can skip everything that is the same and start off where they differ. OR is it different from the beginning and I should start at vol. one? Trying to save some money here!!

Ultimately, I am looking for a new/different/alternative storyline, one that is different from the anime and has a different ending. If you think this is the case with the manga, then great, if not, then please let me know.

No, there are no two worlds so no the story is very different.

The anime strayed off at around volume 5 I THINK, you'll have to wait for someone who can give you a better answer on this one.

Yeah the manga ends up being way different, and hasnt' even been finished yet, but it'll probably have a much different ending
