In the market for a new Headphone and mp3 player

So my Rio Karma recently died and I need a new mp3 player. I would like some recommendations for a new player, specifically one with a long battery life (15 Hours+ on any bitrate), can hold at least 6GB, and good sound quality

I've tried the iRiver H10s and the 6 hour battery life just didn't cut it for me at all. And please don't recommend any iPods... I have a very bitter history with them and don't wish to use them ever again.

Also while in the market for a mp3 player, I need a new set of headphones, mainly to replace my speakers. I've been looking at some of Sennheiser's products but not really sure which one to go with, and some people have recommended me to Grado's SR-80.

Not sure what to go with at the moment so would like some more opinions before I go and make any purchase.

I'd recomend a Philips Gogear

I use philips SBC 5500 headphones. Good sond quality, good durability, but a bit uncomfortable. Get it with the adjustable head band and it will be much more comfy.

Are you focused on home or portable use? Any particular formats? I would recommend the new generation Creative Zen DAPs. Support for every major format and Windows friendly. You could also go with the Toshiba Gigabeat S. I would suggest more but I would need more info from you. As for headphones, in ear or over the ear? What's your budget total?

We have a severe psychological problem in this country. We want houses we can't afford, money we haven't earned, and grades we don't deserve.

The thing about the Philips GoGear is that it comes in 6BG, very niffty, has a shock proof case, and can be used for home entertainment systems.

Though I also like the Creative Zen. The smaller 3-8GB ones are really nice, the video one has great quality too.

The mp3 player is mostly for portable use (thus the long battery life). I mostly listen to mp3s but I've been getting more and more into lossless formats but isn't really necessary since I'll end up sticking with mp3s.

As for the Headphones, this is mostly for Home use since I'm moving out soon and having speakers blare music at high volume would just annoy neighbors (not to mention they're annoying the hell out of my parents). Preferably over ear.

Budget for everything about 400 bucks

One other question, along with the mp3 players I could use some small headphones/earphones (I don't like traveling around with large headphones unless I'm in a plane). The earphones that usually accompany the mp3 players are low quality and wire is way to short. Anything good for maybe about 10-30 dollars?

Good earbuds for $30? The only ones I've seen are Sennheiser MX30 buds with inline volume control.

As far as DAPs go I personally don't own one as I use my phone, but check out dapreview.com and check out their impressions on major DAPs

hmm.. i'd recommend the Sony Ericsson W810i if the 8GB MS Duo pro sticks were available, otherwise you're stuck with 4GB. We've gotten about 15H battery life playing MP3s using the speakers for it. One major catch is that it doesn't too other formats (outside of AMR, MP3/MP4) well... Also, while the software is great for playing music, it's not it's main purpose.. though that's the only one i know with a half decent play time that isn't an ipod

the Creatives are also pretty good too.

Unfortunately, the iPods would be one of the best given your requirement for long battery life (though they suck in so many other ways..

I'd recommend looking for a flash based one because they'd use less power than hard drive based players.

I'd only like the W950 if it (and it's less hip twin brother, the M600) can use Blackberry BIS push email....

They can but not reliably due to the S60V3 routines being worked out. Damn Symbian and their paranoia.

I'm not really looking to spend 400 dollars on a phone, much less a mp3 player.

You said Creatives were good, what is your opinion on the Creative ZEN Vision?

I'd go with the Creative Zen music players, I always found them to be much easier to put music on to.
