Some PSP questions

I'm considering getting a Playstation Portable. But to be honest, I don't really know much about it. I'd be lying if I said that my motivation was much more then to play the Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition. But I've got some questions first, so here are a few, though I'm looking for general information, so feel free to share anything.

1) Is the PSP region free? My general searches seem to indicate Yes, but I want to make sure as my first purchase will be an import.

2) How well does the system work? I mean this in terms of games, UMDs, MP3, video files, everything.

3) How is the game selection? Eventually I'll certainly want to buy more games, so how are my options, both import and domestic?

4) Are there any serious design flaws that seem to cause common problem? Is there anything that should keep me from buying one?

Uh, that's it. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Just connect it to your PC via USB cabel to get all your stuff on, the system work's very well... internet browser could be tuned a bit in the next update though

Before some nintendo fan come's in here and say's "OMG the system has no good game's get the DS Nintendog's is on the 10 ten like 4 time's" let me say it does have good game's, ppl seem to like to ignore all the good game's comeing out for it lately (SF: dark mirro, VP:lenneth, Tekken DR, monster hunter freedom, just to name a few) of course allot of ppl just use there psp as an i-pod and sit around useing the "no good game's" excuse.

the only flaw i find is the screen... it's nice and all but it scratch's rather easily just be sure to keep it in the "sheath" whenever you put it in your pocket

EDIT: Forgot to mention sony is gonna release a PS1 emulater you can download unto it so you can download all your favourite PS1 game's, ill be getting all the old Resident Evil's b4 capcom stabbed it's fanbase in the back with that "Save the president's daughter" crap.

Try to stay a little more on topic. Thank you for everyone who has responded so far. I'm still looking for a few more opinions if there are any major problems with it.

Also, I suppose I should be more specific. I'm a fan of RPGs mostly, for the most part, Japanese RPGs tend to be my favorites. How is the PSP in those terms? And I already plan to buy Tales of Eternia and Tales of Phantasia, so no need to mention those two.

Its only flaw is the battery life. Thats it really. If Sony could improve upon this then their system is gold. Tekken 5: DR is the only game you really need right now. The only thing is that the pad is the worst thing ever.

Well the psp uses the 802.11g standard so its limited to 10-11 Mbps, its not the fastest, but you can turn off images and javascript to ease the load

1) It is. I play imports on mine.

2) I've not noticed any problems, really. The analog nub sometimes cracks, but you can get replacements cheap.

3) Not great. I'm thinking of ditching my PSP, in truth.

4) It makes my hands hurt more than any other controller or handheld.

I do not own a PSP, but my experience is that the little analog nub is not very durable. I was in a Best Buy that had a PSP with the nub completely broken off, and I was in an EB games that had the nub stuck in the "down" position.

Granted, demo systems take more abuse in the store than probably anywhere else, but PSPs are the only system I've seen that has been consistently damaged.

Actually, the analog nub can be pulled out of place with little to no effort. Happened to me the other day and I thought I lost the damn thing. Thats the second worst feature of the PSP.
