does anyone here have a video of them freestyling. I'll try to get you one of my friends freestyle battles from a party. He was pretty sick... and half drunk... but sick.

While the subject is on rap, I'd like to ask: what is it about? It seems that 90% of rap is about the 'hood, drugs, sex and violence. I'd understand if rappers were singing to "get it out of their system", but the sheer amount of sameness is excessive. What was rap originally supposed to be? I like the beats and all, but the subjects broached are less than commendable.

So if most mainstream rap is junk and underground is where it's at, does this mean people like Eminem and 50 cent (both apparently highly regarded) ain't all that good?

Lastly, what makes a genius in this world? I do not know how the rapper's prose works, so I can't be a definite judge.

yea hes best newest song is canibus and papoose. They are murder in it. The lyrical genious of both those rappers is amazing. Canibus was good back in the day but he fell off alot. Eminem killed him with CANI*****. I think papoose is the NEXT lyrical genious

This really bothers me becuase im from the hood. Especialy the one before this saying get a job and get out. The only job u can get in the hood is Sellin drugs. U gotta live ure whole life lookin over ure shoulder when ure walking down the street. My motto is u cant beat a bullet. So if ure held up u just give ure sh*t up. Exept ure shoes. If u let another person take ure shoes off ure feet u deserve to get shot. Never let another person take ure shoes off ure feet or u want be able to live with ureself. I just dont like these hood comments. U DONT UNDERSTANDF THE LIFE WE LIVE> IT

I consider 50 cent junk, Eminem has talent though.

Its just like everything else. Like movies for instance, majority of the big budget films studios push out are crap, but there is quality out there if you look for it. You have sellouts who once did fantastic work and will now do anything to make a quick dollar. And you still have people like Johnny Depp who can do blockbuster films and still maintain their respect and integrity.

Jurassic 5, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Common are a few examples of people/groups who have made it big but you won't find rapping about money and being gangster.

nwo think of this....the hood is bad because of drugs....everyone hates the living in the hood. Now...you need to all work as a comunity that you are, and stop the drugs, repair the neighborhood, and then more businesses will coem around.

EDIT: sorry if i am offending. I ma one to believe there is always a way out of any situation

It seems that way because it's marketed that way. That's what people want to hear. It's like reading a certain type of book or watching a movie. People want the to know what it's like without having to actually experience it. But more importantly, they want their pre-concieved notions (sterotypes) of what it's like living in a poor community confirmed. The end result is a system consisting of rappers blackballed into putting out music that tells less of the truth, and more of what people WANT to hear. The bottom-line is middle-class american's (the ones that buy into this the most) don't want to hear positivity, inspiration, hope, perseverance and all of that. They're middle-class american's, their life is set up to be positive. They want to hear how much better their life is compared to these people, and how differently they operate compared to them. The end result is what you see and hear in mainstream hip-hop music.

I disagree that mainstream hip-hop is junk. Hip-Hop is Hip-Hop. Point-Black period. It all boils down to preference. People will always argue who they like as "real hip-hop" and people will always disown the artists' music that they don't like.

Personal preference, I think. Also how well they can relate to an artists' music and image among other things.

Also: To anyone that wants to hear a fairly recent song that deals with life in the ghetto without the glitter and from a subjective point a veiw, I recommend Joe Budden's, "Three Sides To A Story". Make sure to pay attention to the lyrics .

ok ok i got u. U gotta understand though repair the neighborhood and businesses will come. The businesses are here. Drugs are the business. There are lines around the corners for some ****. The cops let this happen becasue they are paid off by the dealer. Thats how teh streets work. Also people got clothes shoes dvd's electronics. All hot merchandice. I used to sell all kinds of stuff when i was like 12-17 but now i work somewhat honestly. Drugs are what brings money to people that is the work. Im just letting u know how things are here
