persona 3

is anyone else as excited about this game as i am?

i've heard that atlus is indeed supposed to bring this game over sometime next year, which makes me happy even though i'll have to wait a bit. i've read on forums that people feared it would never make its way here because of the particular way the characters summon their personas which involves pointing a device that looks like a hand gun at their heads and pulling the trigger.

personally, i think the game looks incredibly stylish and unique. i've been meaning to preorder my copy for a couple days now...i'm definately going to put some money down on it and rogue galaxy tomorrow when i go into work.

I can't wait for it. It's currently my most anticipated RPG. From what I've read about it, it sounds like a hybrid of an RPG and a school/life-sim. It'll be interesting to finally play an RPG where the characters have a life outside of leveling up and exploring dungeons.

yeah, i found it really interesting to read about what "day to day" life was like for the characters. it almost sounds like a dating simulation game. aha. but i've always liked games that incoporate the need to be social with other characters in order to successfully progress. i think i'm going to have a lot of fun with this game.

so, i hear february of 2007 is when it may come out...i hope that changes, to something sooner preferably.

I kind of doubt it'll come out any sooner than Q1 2007 (in fact, I'm skeptical that it'll even come out that soon). Luckily, Devil Summoner is going to be released later this year, so that should give us our SMT fix while we wait.

I've never played a SMT game that I didn't like, so I'm certainly looking forward to it. I absolutely loved the first one and I just started playing the second (which I also love so far), so this is on my must have list to be sure. In this market over saturated with fantasy RPGs, it's nice to have a dark, modern day story that's not only actually mature and different, but, if the battle system ends up anything like Nocturne or DDS, relentlessly difficult. Can't wait

I read that the first Persona was good but they americanized the hell out of it. Also apparently when the game was released in America there was the need to turn a white kid into a black kid and…urban him up a bit.

I haven't played much of the original Persona, but I've heard its pretty iffy. It has quite possibly the worst US localization in history (they even replaced the original character artwork with ugly color-pencil drawings).

Persona 2: Innocent Sin was never released in the US (most likely due to the fact that the story involved Neo Nazis and the resurrection of Adolf Hitler), but its sequel Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (yes, both games are titled Persona 2) was localized, and it's actually pretty easy to find since it went back into production not too long ago (so buy it while it lasts). It's definately a most excellent game, and it functions just fine as a stand-alone RPG. For more information on Persona and the Shin Megami Tensei series, check this link: Click

Shin Megami Tensei is more than just a game series. It's more like a brand of RPGs (including series such as Persona, Last Bible, and Devil Summoner). The main series consists of Shin Megami Tensei 1 & 2 (for SNES, and various other consoles), and the recent Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

In Japan, RPG fans are easily able to identify a Shin Megami Tensei-brand game. But since the series has had so little exposure to the American market, Atlus needs to add a common title to each game. Digital Devil Saga, for example, was titled Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner in Japan. If it were given that title in the US, many American RPG fans wouldn't have known that it was part of the SMT-brand, so Atlus titled it Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga.

Another interesting fact is that the original Persona was released in the US under the title Revelations: Persona. Afterwards, the Gameboy Color remake of Last Bible (another SMT sub-series) was titled Revelations: The Demon Slayer. So it seems that Atlus was interested in branding all the games from the very beginning, but apparently "Revelations" didn't catch on.

I am looking forward to this. The first Persona can be a trial in patience, but it's good.

i had heard about that, but i had to read the part about hitler being in the game a few times before it actually sunk in. that's quite a trip, really. just curious, but what type of role does adolf hitler actually play in the game? was his role the reason why it was never released in the u.s.? or was it just because he's in the game itself?

aaah. well, i can understand that then. i'm just becoming an altus fan myself, but i would assume that true atlus fans would recognize one of their games from a mile away. they aren't nessecarily the most well-known games and tend to be more obscure than main-stream babies like final fantasy. but the artwork used at least in the shin megami tensei series is very identifiable.

Just a side note, I'm pretty sure the old SNES ones where just "Megami Tensei", "Shin" was added for the newer ones since shin=new.

I'm not quite sure exactly. But Nazism is always a taboo topic in the states, so I guess Atlus didn't want to take any chances.

Actually, the NES games were titled "Megami Tensei." The title "Shin Megami Tensei" started with the first Super Famicom game.

Ah, I knew it was something like that. I didn't realize the series went THAT far back.

Oh yeah, slightly OT but, has anyone seen the Kazuma Kaneko artbook collections? I have book 2. It's mostly his much older stuff I'm assuming becasue I've never seen any of the illustrations in it before. I was hoping it'd have some more current stuff, but it seems like their goign to be releasing several books.
