Ok, this is a Cowboy Bebop related thing. What is with things happening 3 years ago? Does the number 3 mean anything? Every main character did something important 3 years prior to meeting up on the Bebop.
Ed: Ran away from the orphanage
Faye: Unfrozen
Spike and Jet: Meet up and become bounty hunters.

I noticed this after seeing episode 24 again.
Any thoughts to why this is?

There is in fact something special about three, for it is far beyond the loneliest number and it is slightly larger than the loneliest number since the number one.

Babe Ruth, Allen Iverson, Dale Earnhart, Chris Kunda (Its an Oregon State thing). Its seems that many famous people had the #3.

Thus its a famous number.

"3, 2, 1 -- Let's Jam."

It's probably a little tribute to the Brass Jazz scale.

"Three years ago" is significant in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as well.

3 is a very special number, if I do say so myself....

Think of the character's ages as well...3 years ago sounds like a long time, but for the characters (like Spike, age 24 at the time), the events that occurred were still very much a part of them, in their memories. They were all adults 3 years ago, and they're adults now...the only thing that happened within those three years was recovering from the past and chasing bounty heads.

I know it doesn't make much sense, but that's the best way I can explain it.
