Akemi Takada
Below is a drawing by Akemi Takada: artist/illustrator and animation character designer of Creamy Mami, Fancy Lala, Kido Keisatsu Patlabor, Kimagure Orange Road, Imomushi no Boken, Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura - and even Science Ninja Team Gatchaman – and many other shows.
My exposure to the wonderful world and works of Akemi Takada has not only been through those memorable, influential, life-affirming (or also life-enhanced) entertaining shows like Urusei Yatsura, Kimagure Orange Road, and Patlabor - but I’ve also been able to enjoy the expressive quality of her original drawings of those TV characters on exhibit at Anime Expo 2000, and in other Anime Expo exhibits that have displayed her works. I've also been blessed with a few of her published albums of her drawings sent to me by a friend in Japan. Fans here at AnimeNation should enjoy and celebrate this charming recent drawing below by the hard-working artist/Illustrator (and jewelry maker too!). I came across this lovely work by way of one of Akemi Takada’s twitters. I could not find the original URL, but here is that same image posted here after I made sure I’d get permission out of honor and respect for the artist and the fans. A work that is really a fine hello from artist Akemi Takada to her fans and all admirers of original art whomever and wherever you may be: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater ***** Last edited by Skylark; July 26th, 2012 at 12:10 PM. |

Gotta throw some music in this thread again somewhere and it might as well be here: a piece from the anime Shamanic Princess that really caught me and sounds wonderfully Japanese to my ears:

Life & Death
Uh, speaking of music -- in this sort of thread/blog we have here. . .
Someone asked me, after I had gone through that life-or-death heart surgery a couple years back, what it feels like after you've got back and thought you were not sure you'd never see the earth again. For someone that draws like myself the effect is some of the best work I can organize and command -- there's a sense of celebration and confidence I hope to convey in my drawings. I can't really show people what I mean yet (since most of what I think is the best material so far is in the commissioned project that I'm currently working for a client). However, someone like Jazz artist Peter White and Mindi Abair's live music can sure express it for me in their music. The celebration after the surgery feels like this by Jazz artist Peter White and Mindi Abair in a performance in Tokyo, Japan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCe_o...ature=youtu.be The confidence sometime after that feels like this by Mindi Abair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5oZ2...ature=youtu.be As for the presentation of the drawings you'll have to wait a few months, then I'll let you peek at what's going on. ![]() Have a good day, AN. **** Last edited by Skylark; September 4th, 2012 at 09:02 AM. |

Thank goodness for digital computers -- at least for the arts. With a pencil (or maybe with conte') we can now see the handwriting of an individual and the art one attempts to convey in animation. I can say that this short piece is animation at it's very best. Enjoy the feeling, the emotion, and the being-in-the-moment the artist here wants to convey:
