Why do you attend?
First of all, let me be very clear that this isn't a question of why you cosplay, rather it's a question about why you attend the cons where you cosplay. I'm one of the staff members for an event called "Smash Con" and we specialize in N64 gaming tournaments as well as other iterations of Smash Bros. and some newer age gaming. However, we also double as a place to cosplay video game characters and even let people in for free if they do so. Despite this, we see very little people cosplay so I got curious and decided I wanted to hear, straight from actual cosplayers why it is that you attend the events that you do.

I've only been to one convention (once last year and once this year) but it was great fun. I dressed up as a silent hill 2 nurse and i did it because i loved what the game/characters meant to me. It's absolutely wonderful having people come up to you in awe (and in fear) of what you're wearing. I've kinda compared it to halloween since a question along this same line gets asked. I think why maybe you'd see less cosplay at a video game convention is maybe because it's harder to play the games? I mean i guess if you're wearing a sonic suit it might make gaming more complicated? I'm not entirely sure...either that or they just want the experience and cosplay isnt really their thing. I know people will do that at the convention i've been at since they really dont have money or they just say they're cosplaying themselves lol. Idk i can't really speak for the masses..just my 2 cents :3
