Linux Home Setups
So I am planning on building an entire server infrastructure of linux using Fedora 16 and 17. I am building a vmware esxi server to host these virtual machines. I a novice with linux and figure this will be a good way to get started. Has anyone built an entire linux infrastructure in their house? What OS of linux did you use?

^ That's kinda what I was wondering. I tinker with a few builds of Linux in my house (Ubuntu, Puppy, Damn Small Linux, Debian, etc.), but I can't say I've got any need to host virtual machines.

I actually just use the free Oracle Virtual Box to host Linux, or older Windows OSes. I've never had the personal need to use the business class vmware esxi server .
I usually use Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mandriva

No user serviceable parts inside.

This seems too complicated for someone with no Linux experience.

I think ESXi for home is a bit overkill, unless it's for education purposes. In this case take 100% compatible hardware (check it with VMware list), documentation or good book, download 10-20 most popular Linux distributions and try. After 100th time and 1-2 months you can become a professional. There is nothing too difficult there. Actually it's pretty demanding and well paid specialty these days.
For my home needs UbuntuServer has it all. Almost zero maintenance and ~5 minutes per week downtime. My desktop is changing all time, now it's Kubuntu.
