Anyone know why volume 16 of Ai Yori Aoshi is so hard to find?

Hello everyone. Been away from the forums and from anime in general for a long time but slowly starting to come back. Anyways, out of curiosity does anyone know why volume 16 of Ai Yori Aoshi is so hard to find and expensive? I always meant to pick up that series but i procrastinated too much and now it seems its gonna be difficult to get a complete set. Im just curious why its easy to find all the other volumes except that one.

I can only guess that, similar to the TokyoPop release of the Full Metal Panic novel "Into the Blue", Ai Yori Aoshi vol 16 probably had a short print run and quickly went out of print (presumably due to financial issues leading to TokyoPop's "demise").

I did a lot of searching for the FMP, and after several months, I finally found some reasonable auctions to bid on. I still ended up paying $50 for it, but that was much cheaper than anywhere else it could be found, new OR used. I was looking around for the AYA, and it looks like you're going to be in a similar situation. Just wait it out and eventually one will pop up that should be reasonably priced, but be prepared to spend more than cover price if you really want one (there are a lot of greedy bastards out there )

Pretty much what SonRyu said. For whatever reason that particular book probably just had one small print run (and maybe didn't sell enough copies to get a reprint?) and then went OOP.

Same can be said for VIZ titles as well. I've got several VIZ series that I'm trying to complete that have missing volumes because of that same situation. After searching for 2 years I finally came across a used copy of Basara 20 that was in my price range, though I still paid way more than SRP for it. Just have to keep your eyes open and snap them up when you find a reasonable deal.

O ok that makes sense i thought all manga had like a set amount of how much they produced so i figured they all had the same run, thanks for your replies. Yea i guess auctions are gonna be my best bet but at least i was able to find out the company that licensed it in Spain still sells it for $10 so im just waiting on a quote to see how much the total will be with shipping. At least this way i can get them all now and finish the story since i have no problems reading Spanish. I'll just keep my eyes peeled for a cheap English one once it comes up
