I was talking to someone at work about this and they asked, "What is a furry?" We actually had a discussion about what a furry is, but we got confused at some point. While he understood that character's like sonic are furries, he was confused about cat-girls.

The shortest demonstration that I could think of is that there are 'cat-girls', which are women with cat-parts attached (tail and ears), 'furries', which is full on fur, and the 50/50 area, such as Felicia from Darkstalkers, since she has more skin than fur, but also more cat-parts than human ones. You know, this character.

Would she be a furry or cat-girl?

I think it might've been Soluzar who put it succinctly: If a catgirl is more girl than cat, that's ok. If she's more cat than girl, then she's a furry.

I tend to think of the mere addition of ears and tail to be 'cute' in that Playboy Bunny sense. The character above also has paws, and the structure/musculature of the legs is a bit too feline. I'd put her just over the line into furry. She still has a human face, though, and that counts for something. If she had anything like a feline nose or upper lip, she'd be full-on furry.

I thought about telling him to yiff in hell but he was quite a bit larger than me and had like 300 pounds on me. So I decided against it.
