Gotta chime in!

My favorites are the 1st (Kanashimi wo Konnichiwa) and the 5th (Hidamari) opening
And the 1st (Ashita Hareru ka) and 2nd (Ci-ne-ma) - and if you count it, Aoi o Hitomi no Erisu - which was played in one of the OVAs, right?

I tried so hard to find Picasso albums, but they're no where to be found!

Good to see this series still getting some love.

It took me about six years to go through the whole thing, starting with the first-issue of the English-translated manga and finishing up with the Japanese-language anime. During the time my whole outlook on dating and romance changed (early on I identified with Godai, and by the end realized I'd turned into Mitaka).

I still think Kyoko and Godai's personalities were more interesting and realistic in the manga, but the anime's voices, music, and use of silent pauses are all first-rate.

One of the things I liked about the manga is that they more directly addressed the issue of sex in a mature way. The anime hinted at it a couple of times, like when Mitaka wanted to take Kyoko up to his room, but it's more of a recurring theme in the manga, and of course they actually consummate their relationship towards the end. I liked it not because I'm a perv, but because it added to the sense of this being a more mature adult relationship rather than the puppy love seen in most anime/manga.

They don't know what they're talking about. It's very well written, charming, heartfelt, and has one of the best endings I've ever seen in anime or manga.

It's not just a romantic comedy, it's a story about growing into adulthood.

So now find a subtitled version of the Maison Ikkoku movie, which is like between & into the last 2 episodes.

And then change anime & watch Kimagure Orange Road TV, OVAs & both movies.

Its there in the anime, but no fan service. All you see is the curtain being drawn....

Still my second favorite anime after the FMA Franchise. Its had lots of competition over the years but only FMA has bettered it for me. Maison Ikkoku is just Soul Food at its best. Its not vulgar or perverted. Its not too sad or too happy. Its balance is perfect and its story more so. Will never be matched in the genre either. Its THE anime Romance show for me. Endlessly watchable and forever perfect. A Masterpiece.

Touch is awesome-it was my summer manga reading project, and my wife got all nostalgic looking at it over my shoulder.

I've realized that I like Maison Ikkoku enough that I could probably reread it ecery other year and never get bored of it, and since I can find the whole series used for about 12 bucks over here, I really should pick up the volumes I'm missing.

I realize I've been putting off watching the last 3 episodes of the TV series, because having spent the last 18 years going through the OVAs, both movies, and all the previous episodes, I'm gonna be really bummed out when I finally finish the franchise.

You know, I'm going to restart one of these two shows at some point. There's very, very little that equals either, IMO. They're not just about two characters falling in love, which would be the usual endgame for shows like these. They're about the characters lives and how the romance shapes them. Godai, for instance, is a different person at the end of the series vs the beginning- and that change is what really led him to winning over Kyoko.
