Simple. Because Call of Duty is a gigantic fat-*** cash whore. Since 2008, its been the same rehashed garbage over and over again with a new name slapped on it and aggressive marketing and budget.

Call of Duty is already at risk of being too tired and dated to the point where its fans will become sick of it.

So pretty much its the next Guitar Hero for Activision?

I know that I've given up on the CoD franchise.. I'll stick with Battlefield for my FPS and Gears Of War for my TPS craveings.

There is no money in actually fixing your game, unless you are going to put it in a future expansion. But release a few patches to give the unwashed masses hope that you will fix it for free

As long as it sells multi-millions of copies, why would they care that some people don't think it's very good?

I don't care for the CoD games myself, so I'm not defending them from a quality standpoint. I'm just saying that as long as the games sell multi-millions of copies, it's hard to make a business case that they need to change what they are doing.

Rinse and repeat. Until it stops selling lots of millions and starts underperforming, they will not care. It makes money, and they are a business.

I think Vivendi has its own problems, and it may be seeing some foreseeable decline in ActiBlizz that the market isn't privy to. So they're selling.

ActiBlizz'll be fine, I'm sure. CoD is still selling and the Blizzard name still carries a lot of weigh.

Any company looking to kill off a franchise that makes close to a billion dollar solely during launch week is a company that is so poorly managed that they cold never hope to buy Activision Blizzard.

Call of Duty games are well reviewed (Console and PC versions are all 85+ on Metacritic) and they are the best selling games each year and set sales records every year. They are critical darlings and fans love them. Absolutely no reason for no company with at least half a brain to give the franchise the axe.

You can hardly compare the two.. CoD is a video game franchise, not a console.. Plus, the 83-85 crash was caused by low quality consoles/games that consumers just weren't happy with.. That is not the case with CoD, its core fanbase is happy with each game that comes out (even if it is just a rehash) and thats been proven through their sales numbers..

Too earlie to say weather CoD will keep breaking record sales or not but I don't think its anywhere near the level of the 83-85 console crash was.. The signs just arn't there.

I hate CoD too and I have since given up on them after Modern Warfare. They are the same game and unfortunately they do sell millions of copies. But that also shows you how stupid people are that they are willing to pay 60+ dollars a year to play basically an expansion of the same game. At this point, the FPS genre is at a Dead end. I don't know what else they could do to make a FPS game that isn't like any of the others. But if they do make one, I'll be willing to give it a try. Until then, I'll just stick to TPS.

Next FPS game I'll purchase is the new Counter-Strike especially since its only going to be $15.. Until then BF3 is more then enough, and even that game has gotten a little stale for me.. I havn't logged on since i got Diablo III heh

BF3 is the only FPS I play. I like battlefield, cause unlike CoD, it does take some skill to play. Also it isn't a run and gun which is always a plus. Multiplayer FPS games went down hill for me after Rainbow 6: Vegas. Those games were good games. You actually had to have skill to play them. On top of that, the casino levels were the funnest levels. Rainbow 6: Vegas definitely holds some of my Best and Funnest Multiplayer experiences.

FPS have been on the decline for me since CS 1.5

Nah, I've actually enjoyed BFBC1+2, 1943, and BF3.. But I really like the series because the vehicles are a lot of fun.. 1/4th of my time played on BF3 has been spent flying the jet..
