Laptop Advice

I think I posted this a while ago but since it's been a while and 3rd Gen Ivy Bridges are out, here I am posting again.

I have about $1500 Amazon credits and I can pay a little bit more, if needed.

I was looking at the below two, but if you can recommend me anything else, please let me know. I don't know how reliable the brands are because I normally desktop and custom build it. Hopefully I can get something that can at least run PCSX2 decently for most games such as Suikoden, FFX and so on.

Remember that it has to be something from Amazon due to the credits I have on it. Your feedback is much appreciated!

Not needed, but if I can easily swap HDD or has an extra HDD bay for a SSD, that would be beneficial, but not required. Hopefully something Ivy-Bridge as well

This also looks great, but don't think it can game well?

I would get either of the ASUS laptops IMO. ASUS makes wonderful laptops and the Geforce 660M is a great card, you'll max pretty much everything.

I wish I had money to buy one of these, I'd love to have a gaming laptop. :/

660m versus 675m seems like a huge difference, about 20%....so debating if the extra 400 dollars-ish is worth it.... other than that, i think they are pretty much the same spec, hardware wise other than audio / keyboard / design wise.? confirmation?

Design wise Samsung does look better, and audio seems better as well...so hard to decide.

Yeah, might go with 660m. it is less powerful but seems like it's a newer chip than a 670m so performance wise is better, but not power.

I wonder how the battery technology is on ASUS....is ASUS generally a reliable laptop overall?

Question: Can the 660m be overclocked to be powerful as the 670m stock? how do you overclock graphic cards? how bad is it for the hardware?

thanks...

The main problem actually will be heat coming off the chipset. Laptops are not normally known for being cool.

Don't even think about overclocking a laptop. The idea is ludicrous. It would not be much of an overclock to buff it up to 670M, I would assume, but even so, you can't take the added heat and power drain. Laptops are built for portability, not for power and expansion ability. As such, you likely have very little power to spare and it likely will run hot if you're pushing it, let alone if you're trying to overclock the system.

It isn't bad for the hardware in a conventional system. But those systems usually have ample extra power, people tweak everything from voltage to timings to clock speeds, and there's usually lots of cooling. A laptop doesn't really have that sort of ability.

If you want to overclock, don't get a laptop. They are not the ideal platform for gaming and overclocking is a bad idea on them as a rule. If you are dead set on getting a laptop, don't even bother trying to overclock it, especially if you are a novice when it comes to your skills with overclocking.

I don't deal with laptops often which is why I asked. I already got a desktop on a 580sli with sandy bridge. I'm looking for a gaming laptop on the go. Of. I know that it wont be near my desktop

What can you guys recommend on amazon?

I got the Samsung Series 7 G as my new laptop and I like it over-all, only negative I have right now is the dial thing...need to figure out if I can lock it and/or give customize setting of what I want.

Speaks are great for a laptop
