Im looking for a Anime from the late 90's or 2000 (Need Help)

Hi,

I'm looking for an Anime that stared a person that Used like organic weapons from his arms. Every time he was going to fight he took em out, it was like a curved blade that could take damage (part of his body)...eventually it happened at the end he almost died and he lost one of them.

He was kinda green or maybe the organic blades were kinda green. Don't remember.

He was kinda arrogant too, but he played the role of a hero at the end.

Did the blades stay attached to his arm? Mamoru Kusanagi from Blue Seed comes to mind. (link)
