What is the best monitor for gaming?

I'm thinking about getting a PC monitor to use for gaming on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and other stuff. And I want to know what is the best one for gaming that has no gaming control lag and good picture quality and black levels.

Because my 1080p HDTV has horrible control lag, even if I play the game in 1080p mode with gaming mode on and all the other settings turned off.

As a fellow PC gamer who uses his 1080p monitor for gaming, I will say this: Once you start using a monitor for your 360/PS3 games, you'll finally realize just how cruddy games look because of the outdated technology. Stick to a good 720p TV...a rule of thumb (for me, anyways) is to keep the response time at 5 or below. After that it's just what you think looks the best. I would personally buy a Samsung or Sony, but that's just me.

You will never find an HDTV that has a total input lag less than 5ms. It's not just the response time, which is just how long it takes for a pixel to change state. There's also the image processing to take into account. I understand Lacan's problem since many HDTV have input lag of in excess of 35-40ms which is about the point it becomes noticable.

The only thing to do is to read reviews. I chose mine very carefully and it is said to have input lag of about 14ms. I rarely notice any lag. It looks good with SD content as well as HD. It is a really excellent screen, and it's full HD. The only drawback for some would be the size. At 32" it may just not be large enough for some.

There is no such thing as perfection... but I like this one.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003EEM1M4/

I can't find it on the US site, but that's the one.

Dell Ultrasharp, nothing else comes close IMHO. I've tried numerous monitors, including top of the line Samsung monitors, and they look awful compared to the Dell Ultrasharp monitors I have.

I personally don't like the Dell Sharp and usually go with Samsungs and Sony. I can't remember my Sony Bravia model but it's the older ones and the lag is 3ms (50 inch) from what I remember but regardless, not enough to hinder me playing SD music games such as Beatmania and DDR. I personally like Sony more than Samsung for most of the time but that's only due to the brightness that they have. Quality wise, they are both about equal to me.

I don't feel like buying a full HDTV again, since I already have a 37 inch 1080p one, even though it lags like crazy. I rather have a pc monitor that I can connect to my PC and 360/PS3 at the same time that looks great and doesn't have lag.

This is what I own

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=asus%20vw246h

It's basically a better version of the monitors they used at EVO. Only real complaint is that the viewing angles are strict. Sitting down leaned back crushes the blacks.

^ I was about to recommend the EVO monitors, but this seems better. We use a couple EVO monitors at our (FG) "HQ" and they're pretty damn good monitors.

Should I get one that uses led instead of standard lcd? Since I heard that led has better picture quality.

There's a lot of info here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1131464

Including how they test things for lag, etc... there's a lot of it there though, so I was thinking "I'll read through it when I seriously want to go and buy a new TV" which I should really do (just to have a larger screen)... it's a case of saving up for one.

I use a Samsung XL2370 for my living-room gaming. It's a 23" monitor, so I guess no processing = no input lag, but still outputs full 1080p. Not much of a view angle, but it's got a great picture if you're sitting right in front of it.

There's very little difference in the picture quality, but there is a noticeable difference in brightness. The term LED in this case refers only to the backlight. The panel is still an LCD. It will be an improvement, but be sure to get one which is fully LED backlit, rather than edgelit.

I just got a 21.5 inch Asus VE228H led monitor since 24 inches is too big, and it seems to be working pretty well on my Xbox 360 without any input lag with HDMI. Now I don't have to be forced to hook up my 360 to a crt SDTV in order to actually to be able to play any games well.
