    Nightmares and Fairytales: Annabelle's Story

It's very good but rather dark and jagged and more than a little cutesy-macabre goth. The Nightmares & Fairytales version of Cinderella is pretty dark.

I average about $50 a week but I get stuff from lots of different publishers. I like Animal Man and Swamp Thing though the whole Rot storyline just went on too long. I'm past ready for them to do something else. I might dump Action Comics when Grant Morrison leaves.

It's on my pull list but I haven't got it yet. I generally get my stuff the following Monday when I go into town so I won't get this week's pulls until then.

I spent 60 bucks on comics today, all Marvel . I just can't do DC, I've tried. I liked Animal Man and Swamp Thing and Justice League Dark but I gave up.

    Thanos Rising any good?

I was just using Wolverine as an example, he's got two ongoings, and he's in almost every Avenger/X-Men comic book. I like when they take chances on new characters/new stories. I get why they don't, I just don't like it.

I get that, it's just a personal thing. I understand how the business works.

Read it in trade, it isn't meant to be read any other way. I feel it's pretty good. Still reading Saga?

What's on your pull list anyway?

That's not the case with the people I have talked to. There are lots of obscure characters in comics. They get killed off now and then to thin the herd. I see lots of covers but that doesn't necessarily mean that I know who the characters on them are. I definitely believe in D list characters.

There are a lot of comics features characters that aren't at all Wolverine so that isn't really the case. They do tend to concentrate on characters that sell though.

Any character can theoretically be well written and make for a good read but there are only so much money to go around publishing books and not an unlimited number of good writers who can make an average character into an interesting one.

I got a couple of issues of it but it didn't grab me.

I don't think so. Anyone I talk to who actually buys comics (Without being the hipsters who just download Batman) know's who these characters are, even if they don't read their books or know anything about them. I've got a friend who just buys DC but he knows who The Runaways are. The internet is pretty much getting rid of people not knowing about comics. I mean anyone can go into a store and at least see a cover for something they're not reading and understand these characters are out there. I don't really believe in "D" list characters.

    Yeah. She dead.

I don't want them to kill off these characters. I feel any character can be written well, and make for a good read. These characters had story left in them, but they don't want to take the chance on anyone who isn't Wolverine.

Are you reading the new Avengers proper?

Lots of people in comics would also be pretty unfamiliar with them too.

I am reading a premise though. That is a basic part of it and it is as unoriginal as I said.

He probably isn't. I doubt anyone but the two we actually saw die are dead and they might well not actually be dead. There is going to be a ton of razzing if they don't have the guts to even kill off those two for real though. I mean....

The Braddock Academy are new characters made for the book. X-23 and the rest of them are pretty well known to comic book fans. Maybe not people outside of comics, but that doesn't matter.

The premise sure, but you're not just reading for a premise.

Sentinel isn't dead. They aren't going to kill a kid every issue, how long would that story really last? Besides, they're probably going to cop out at the end anyway, and it'll all be virtual or something stupid.

They are pretty minor characters. X-23 had her own book for a while but characters like Kid Britain are fairly obscure. The cast looks like they were mostly chosen for their expendability after all.

The fact that someone lampshades a cliche doesn't make it not a cliche. They were open about it being unoriginal but it's still rather unoriginal.

    As of issue #5,

It just isn't going much of anywhere so far. As of issue #5, the story is just starting to move.

I wouldn't call them C and D list. The Runaways are beloved, and Avengers Academy put out quite a few issues for a series that was bound to get cancelled. It may be unoriginal but they haven't done anything to hide that fact, they straight out told people about the Battle Royale/ Hunger Games connection. And it really does follow through on it's premise by the way, people really start dying really quickly.

I'm not buying it because I don't like seeing characters with good potential stories in them killed off just so we can have another Wolverine book, but from what I hear it's actually really good.

Not sure if I am giving people what they want.

That's basically the issue, yeah. You've got somebody like IRON DICK: STARK EXTRAORDINAIRE #1 which...let's face it, he does have mass appeal and exposure, but because of that, people know offhand what he's about. Doing more lesser known heroes or non-hero titles would, I'd assume, get more exposure.

Plus, given we're on AnimeNation, anime-looking titles would probably get hella huge hits.

I don't really care about the total number of views. I was just a bit surprised by the relative number of views things got. I expected more views for Iron Man than for Courtney Crumrin but the opposite happened. Maybe it's just because people already know who Iron Man is but Courtney is relatively unknown.

Have you thought about going on a blogging site like wordpress?

Or I don't know if you go on any comics sites, but maybe if you advertise your blog there, you might get some more views?

I think they work as they are. The problem seems to not be in the content of your blog, but the fact that only like...four people frequently use the blog feature. That's probably why you haven't gotten the turn-out you expected.

So far I have personally enjoyed all the non-marvel/DC ones, and actually because of you, found a few more self-published manga-ka to look up to. I've been going back and forth for a LONG *** TIME deciding if I can really do my own or not, or if I should just forget it. It's been hard.

But looking at other people in my situation and seeing what they've accomplished really makes me push to finish. They did it. I can do it.

While I am always on the lookout at DeviantART for new exciting well-drawn manga (I stress this because there are a LOT of "artists" out there with their own "manga" who don't care about quality control and just...gods no), I don't always find what I'm looking for. DA is swarmed with all sorts of crap all the time, so filtering it out to find the gems gets tiresome.
