I'll try doing comics again.
Heresy

Get the tar and feathers ready.
The remake of True Grit was better than the original in every way. Jeff bridges is a far better actor than John Wayne ever was.
Heath Ledger was better as The Joker than Jack Nicholson and Mark Hammill is better than either of them.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is better written, better animated, better scored, better acted and just plain better that the vast majority of anime.
Ditto Batman: The Animated Series especially in the voice acting department.
Being influential or a milestone doesn't mean something is great...or even good...or even tolerable. Citizen Kane is a highly influential landmark film. It's also boring as hell.
Those cartoons from the 80s that everyone is so nostalgic about were not very good. Some of them were outright crap. The plots were repetitive beyond any magical girl show. The animation was terrible. The music was terrible. The acting was terrible. They were just not very good.
Some of the live action TV shows were pretty damn bad too. The A-Team was a stupid show.
Some 80s anime was at least as cheesy and in bad taste as anything coming out now combined with generic music that sounded like it was stolen from a porno and jerky, crappy animation with inconsistent tweening.
A lot of movies people call classics are really just old. The Thin Man is a classic movie. Generic Studio Western #843 with Gabby Hayes as the colorful sidekick is just old.
The American remake of Ringu was better acted and more coherently told than the Japanese original. The original had better atmosphere. The remake was better in every other way.
Most Castlevania games are just arbitrary and frustrating.
That's enough for now.

True Grit - I thought the remake was unexpectely outstanding, but I like both films for what they are.
The Joker - I'll call it 50-50. Both Hamill and Ledger are better than Nickolson, but I think they're about equal otherwise. If Hamill tried to do live action, or if Ledger tried to VA, they'd each fail compared to each others' performances. I think they're both perfect in what they do.
Avatar, Batman:TAS - agreed. I think my favorite (besides Joker) is Harley Quinn.
Citizen Kane - Nearly agreed. A justified classic, and not one I feel the need to rewatch.
80's Cartoons & Live Action Shows - Totally agreed, and we knew they were crap at the time.
80's Anime - Haha... yep.
Old Movies - Agreed.
Ringu / The Ring - Didn't like the American film, but then, the thing I truly liked about the original WAS the atmosphere. Kind of a dumb premise.
Castlevania - Was never a favorite, for that precise reason. Catchy music, though.Posted July 15th, 2012 at 09:43 AM by Leader Desslock
