Originally, I had planned to go to Fanimecon this year. It's next Friday through the following Monday. Then I found out that I had no one to go with this year. Then I started looking at the numbers and wondering if it would be worth it for me.
At first, I thought I would just go two days instead of all four. I would see the band on Saturday night and then go home. I may still do this but I am leaning away from it mostly because of this
Hotel Thursday and Friday night - $140 if I stay in a cheap motel 2 miles away and walk.
Registration - $65. Registering just Friday and Saturday is actually more expensive than registering for all four days.
Gas - Easily $50
Food - Easily another $50
Now I am $305 at a conservative estimate and I haven't bought a thing at the con. I could easily spend another $500 between the dealers room and artist alley.
It's not that I don't have it. I could go if I wanted to and I still might. I just wonder if it is worth it. There are just a lot of things I could do with that money other than go to a con for a couple of days, see a couple of panels and a band or two and get some merchandise especially since I would be on my own this time.

If I there were someone else to split the cost of gas and a motel room with, it would be a lot less. There isn't this year. I would have to pay for everything myself.
I could not buy anything at AA or in the dealers room but that obviates much of the point of going.Posted May 19th, 2012 at 09:49 PM by old hat
