Haro! @ Gizmodo Gallery

Posted September 27th, 2009 at 11:28 PM by Haro!

As many members of AN may or may not know, I am an avid reader of Gizmodo, a gadget blog. I'm a huge fan of the writers and appreciate their sense of humor and general well-balanced approach to gadgets and things technology/science related. Recently they held what they call Gizmodo Gallery, basically a gallery space dedicated to old, new, and just plain interesting pieces of technology. From an automatic pancake maker to the first Walkman, to a 103" Plasma TV, and even a sex toy for dogs. Oh and there was a band, Arc Attack that played music along to some snazzy tesla coils. I went on two separate days, these are the events that took place.

The first day I just checked out everything that was there, took some pictures of the gadgets with my phone (since I lost my camera's battery, long story). Most interestingly I played The Beatles: Rock Band on the 103" screen. It was awesome, and this is coming from a guy that doesn't particularly care for video games. So one of my favorite writers, Adam Frucci for those who are familiar, was playing bass and when the song they were playing ended, handed me one of the other guitars. I am not familiar with the layout of these things so I opted for vocals instead, handing the guitar to a rather cute girl standing next to me (who had been checking me out the whole time I was there). So there I am doing vocals and totally sucking at it. The closest I have come to singing in public prior to this was NRBing in Flushing with some friends. Oh and for those that are curious, the song was I Feel Fine, which I like but only sort of know the lyrics to. (A video of my performance exists but no one here will ever see it)

Needless to say I wasn't so proud of my performance and I am in a bit of a hurry to hand the microphone off to someone else. That person was the boyfriend of girl that was checking me out. As I try to give him the mic, she holds my hand and asks me to try again, and that it would be fun. Awkward. Probably more so for that guy. Okay it was quite awesome for me. I pass the mic to someone else and decide to just watch. Girl does the same. A few times for the rest of the night the guy tries to put his arm around the girl but she keeps brushing him off. I feel awesome in an evil way.

The next thing I got involved in was Street Fighter IV. I lost my first match to that bastard writer Matt Buchanan, but that was only because I did not realize the Xbox 360 remote has 4 trigger buttons, thinking there were only 2. After that went on to win 5 straight, and lost to some lame Asian dude playing Ryu against my Dhalsim (I pick random 'cause I'm cool). Asian guy barely won. Sadly I didn't get a rematch, which I totally would have won, against Buchanan because I had to meet my brother for dinner.

We ate at a Mexican place on Allen and Houston streets that wasn't bad but can't remember its name. Actually it was quite good. I'm very picky about Mexican food, so you can take my word on this.

I guess Day 2 is to be continued for now... (spoiler, not as awesome but pretty cool for other reasons)
