Where have I been?

Posted August 24th, 2009 at 09:36 PM by doom&jellybeans

So I've rarely been around lately. So perhaps a bit of catching up is in order. I've been rather buisy lately with my art being a big reason for that. I have some projects I'm working on and these are a big deal. I'm talking 'writing and illustrating a comic' big deal. I also have a couple anime blogs I've been working on. I'll post links to one or both eventually.

When I get a chance, I watch some anime, cartoons, or interesting science programs. For the most part, my art takes priority, except over work. Someday I'd like to turn my art into my career.

Anyway, I've watched a bit of Majokko Megu Chan. Only the first couple episodes. I got sidetracked by some DVD purchases. I consider finding the DVD of the Tenchi Muyo special Mihoshi's Space Adventure and the Pretty Sammy OVAs to be a total win. Those were awesome.

Did I mention Tsuideni Tonchinkan? That show is hilarious and weird. It's awesome. I was actually introduced to the show upon finding the openings on Youtube, linked from some Highschool Kimengumi openings. The music is ............*builds suspense*......... awesome ( I bet you knew I was going to say that).

That reminds me; what happened to the group fansubbing Highschool Kimengumi? It's like the subs they did don't even exist anymore. I've looked. It's like all their work of fansubbing that show has ceased to exist. was it licensed? I somehow doubt it. If infact it were licensed, I'd be leaving to get my DVDs right about... now!

Upon re-watching the classic and undeniably 80s cartoon, Jem and The Holograms, I think it's safe to theorise my 2-D complex started here. Along with that of an entire generation.

On a different note, as it turns out, Jem and The Holograms is one of those cartoons that actually seems as good, if not better than memory serves. It does quite well at being a character driven show and is surprisingly mature at times for a saturday morning cartoon.

I can't remember where I read it, but there was a review of Creamy Mami saying something about her being an influence for Jem. I could be remembering it wrong, but hey, it's not to crazy to think that the animation of different cultures could influence others even back then. The actual animation for the show was done by Toei. It wasn't uncommon to have Japanese studios animating American cartoons at that time, so it wouldn't be a far stretch to think writers or artists working for American companies had a chance to see anime not available here. Outrageous, truly outrageous

I see facepalms happening as I speak

Anyway I'm not gone for good, just distracted. take care everyone. Cute anime for everyone. I'm psyched about the new Hidemari Sketch.

Ok. now I'm done.
